Just to be a little clearer, the specific terms were:

NBC (and by inheritance ESPN) could:

1) Cancel the contract if two or more Group A teams (Cincy, UConn, Temple, Houston) left, or if one Group A and one Group B (everyone else) team left.

2) Renegotiate the contract if no group A but two or more Group B teams left.

That clause did have one effect: It clearly established what schools were regarded by the media partner, and by inference more generally, as most valuable. It was a blow to USF, as the other two Big East holdovers were included but we weren't, while two newbies were. That was humbling.

That said, in a sense this clause was superseded by the Big 12 expansion process of 2016, when they winnowed the candidates down to the final 12, as that represented a more current objective determination of value.
