The Memphis president indicated those numbers were estimates and represent little more than "placeholders".

That is what I've been telling you guys, you're moving too fast in your assumptions.

It could also be a tiered deal in the AAC with tiny bucks for the second division properties.

True. .... soon.

I didn't say anything about the rights on the open market.

Its just not confirmed what this is yet. Is Memphis tooting its own horn because they know they'll be in the first tier? It may be why the estimates are out of their camp.

It could be peanuts for the second tier, which any prospective backfill like USM or ODU would be looking at should they get slotted for the AAC not first tier money.

Just to be clear, this is something you've made up. That's not what Tier 1 and Tier 2 mean. The terms are semi-obsolete, but years ago your Tier 1 contract was with an OTA network, who got first pick of 10-20 games. Then your Tier 2 was with ESPN, who got, say, the next 30 games. And Tier 3 was the leftovers, that got syndicated or ESPN3 and local TV or whatever.

Since Fox has emerged as a real player, the split contracts haven't been that simple. Before the Big 12 renegotiated after losing Texas A&M, ESPN/ABC had Tier 1 (first 14 picks) and Fox had Tier 2 (40 or so games). They renegotiated, so that Fox got some better games and ESPN got more games. (something like ESPN has #1-5, alternating picks #6-40, Fox has #41-55)

Even Boise's "special deal" with the MWC isn't what you're suggesting. It's a setup where schools get paid for national TV appearances. Not just "Boise gets $2M, Air Force gets $1.5 etc"
