The biggest hurdle towards that scenario is that while the AAC got a bump in television revenue, it's still not big enough to warrant/support a true national football conference in terms of distance and travel. UConn is already spending $7 million alone on travel; TCU was going to spend something similar if they ended up in the Big East. Adding Boise State to the AAC's footprint would put a huge dent in athletic program budgets like UConn, Temple, UCF, USF, ECU and Cincinnati.

It doesn't appear that AAC football programs are handcuffed with scheduling Boise State OOC either, as they have Houston, Cincinnati and ECU on future schedules.

It's probably in the best interest for both sides to keep the status quo, IMO, unless there is a large western expansion acquisition of Boise State, BYU, San Diego State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Air Force (which the money would likely not support).

that's funny. There would be very little difference for UConn in cost for travelling to Tulsa or to Boise. Very little. You say they would still have to travel to Tulsa. Not really. If they added Boise plus 1, it'd be a 14 team conference. 6 divisional games. 1 road out of division game. 1 home out of division game. So those 6 programs that you mention(the AAC east) would pick up 1 more division mate- maybe Navy now in this case. So those teams would have 3 home and 3 away with those teams. And then 1 home and 1 away from the west. If anything, the travel costs would go DOWN for the east. It'd go slightly up for the western 5 schools- but not by much. I'd be pretty sure those 5 schools would each have 1 road game with Boise/San Diego St and 1 home game with them. But the road game with Boise/San Diego St would be replacing in essence the road games they had playing at Navy.

Plus, if the AAC did that, it completely cripples the MWC. They lose Boise and for discussions sake San Diego St. Who is the MWC replacing them with? The AAC would be the top G5 conference and it wouldn't be remotely close.

The time to make that kind of move would have been right before TV negotiations or during Tv negotiations. Doing it following the TV deal could very well s8mpky end up decreasing the per team pay out if ESPN is unwilling to add money for the additional teams. However—if even if they add money to keep the value the same—there’s not a lot of motivation to increase travel costs for the same payout. This might be a move that comes up prior to the next tv deal.

Boise playing in the Eastern Time Zone will always be worth more than Boise playing in the MWC.
