Thats incorrect. There is no such rule.

Btw--in 2012 Boise olympic sports intended to join the then FBS WAC for olympic sports while intending to play football in the then Big East. SDSU planned to play olympic sports in the Big West and play football in the Big East. Currently, Hawaii plays olympic sports in the Big West--but plays football in the MW. The NCAA could care less.
