Agreed. On the other hand, it makes a casual Tulsa fan more likely to watch, because ESPNews is on basic cable.

Is it? Or maybe does that vary by cable provider? Are ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, and ESPN-U always in the same tier?

In any event, all cable channels are behind some kind of "pay wall", because you have to pay for cable to get them to begin with, and then even if you get basic cable, you may have to pay for an extra "tier" to get certain sports channels.

E.g., with my COX service here in Baton Rouge, I get the SECN with my tier of service, but would have to pay extra to get the BTN.

True. But these are networks with 80-90 million subscribers "behind their paywall". ESPN-Plus has 2 miliion people behind its paywall.
