Just about any team will travel to any NY6-type bowl... ONCE. There aren't many fanbases big enough (or wealthy enough) to travel cross-country every year - especially to more than one NY6 bowl each year (as Clemson and Alabama have been doing).

No doubt the Southern teams got much of their bowl attendance reputations thanks to having local bowl venues, but I wouldn't say they are less likely to travel outside their own region, but probably about the same.

My take-away from all this is a deep respect for Ohio State fans, which seem to fill their part of the Rose Bowl - some 2,234 miles away! - year-in and year-out. (Of course, the Buckeyes only have to buy tickets to ONE bowl per year...)
