You don't have to look far to find the problem.

You can find an unrated player like TH every once in a while, but you can't build your program with "under the radar" kids that get little to no attention.

Also, because Dr. Selig likes to hype up ODU's athletic facilities, the score for in-state IPF's is Virginia FBS rivals 3, ODU 0.

It's my guess that every commit was warned about these dismissals ahead of time to insure they know that ODU is committed to them.

Yup, this is the root of all problems. The coaches cant recruit players good enough to mask their coaching mistakes.

OK. I am going to throw this out there without having anything to compare it to. I don't know what percentage of starters are walkons on other CUSA teams, however 40% seems awfully high.

Our 2016 bowl team was arguably our best FBS product, schedule notwithstanding.

The starters on that team were FCS holdovers and 40% walkons.
Eight Monarch starters, five on defense, three on offense.
Chad Hendricks, Tyler Compton , Travis Fulgham, T.J. Ricks, Anthony Wilson, Sean Carter, Brandon Addison, and Bunmi Rotimi.
FCS players included the starting QB David Washington, and arguably our best ever WR, Zach Pascal.
Save for Ray Lawry, and Nick Clarke, and Oshane Ximines, our best players were walkons and FCS recruits.
Even now, our starting QB, LaRussa, and star WR Travis Fulghum are walkons.

This tells me that we do a good job of developing some players. It also tells me, along with our recruiting class ranks, that since 2014 we have done a piss poor job of recognizing HS talent, and/or closing the deal on solid recruits.

Our 2019 class so far looks really good. I am optimistic that John Allen can improve recruiting even more.
