Nagy and crew out along with Malone.See ODUsports page

Yep. Those are the ones I expected. Heard issues with Malone, FWIW.

RE: That did not take long - CalODUFan - 11-25-2018 03:34 PM

They fired the right coaches on Defense and kept Commissiong which is good. Firing Malone was excellent but huge mistake letting Wilder's crony Brian Scott survive. The offensive playbook needs a major overhaul.

Not surprising. It’s a decision that will keep the dogs at bay for now.

The Circle of Trust hasn't been breached. SSDY in 2019.

Lol, was thinking the same.

As long as Scott and Whitcomb remain, so does the current philosophy/thought process.

RE: That did not take long - Gilesfan - 11-25-2018 04:39 PM

The one year they hd a solid defense, they won 10 games (including a bowl game). They were blowing people out. They have consistently put out really good offenses from the start. A decent defense would go a long way; hopefully they find the right guy.

My only complaint against the offense the past two seasons has been the offensive line. You cannot have a consistently good offense when you cannot run the ball. We have to recruit better and develop that talent. There’s way too much pressure on the QB. We should have run all over Liberty.

I am not sure that I would describe the 2016 defense as "solid".
Total defense was 96th in the Nation and more importantly 4th worst in CUSA , against arguably the easiest schedule (relatively) we faced since 2009.
Our blowouts were a result of David Washington and an anomalous schedule.
We beat EMU by 4, and they were arguably the weakest FBS team to receive a bowl bid.

I've got to believe this is the first of two waves of firings that will happen to this staff. Remember once the ink dried on national signing day he fired both coach Zyskowski and Dee in 2016.

If I’m not mistaken, Buggs was Recruiting coordinator like Zyskowski was, so I don’t anticipate any more changes, unless someone does something away from football that warrants firing.

John Allen has been a bright spot on the staff and may well be a good fit for RC

However, the line
Quote: ODU ranks ninth in Conference USA games in rushing offense
may be a precursor to more changes.

They were ranked in the 60s based on footballoutsiders. That is good. Total defense is a meaningless stat that doesnt account for garbage time stats.

I would be surprised. They already made changes to recruiting coordinator so no reason to wait.

I don't know. Could you make the argument that BW controls Scott's decision making? What if the lack of creativity is more a function of a very stubborn head coach unwilling to listen to his Coordinators?

We are coming up on our 4th DC. If we continue to see a below standard defense, I think we'll know where the problem lies.

RE: That did not take long - The Doctor Is In - 11-25-2018 05:46 PM

Recruiting coordinator position is listed at $58K

If that is really the case, it won't matter who the replacements are

Hopefully, the position will receive a raise. $58K is entry level and doesn’t go far.
