And that is where your stats break down.
For a number of years we have padded our stats, both on the ground and in the air, against lesser programs. However, the "book" on us was written all the way back at least to Maryland, when teams realized that we almost exclusively run inside zone. They then were able to stack the middle and blitz (the better defenses don't even blitz), containing our run and pressuring our QB at the same time.
This is the reason that ultimately we still must have a QB who can scramble and throw accurately on the run.
Drop back passers will always be at a huge disadvantage in our scheme unless we have an NFL OL.

This also contributes to our frustrations in the red zone, even WITH the scrambling QB. Teams that can contain our inside rushing attack can zone our receivers, who get a lot of yards between the 20s, but Cover X zones compress inside the 20 making it much more difficult to find an open receiver. Thus we score less than would otherwise be expected based on total yardage.

This year we overcame that against teams with the smaller DBs, with ally oop passes to Duhart and Fulgham.
Against taller and faster DBs we were not so fortunate and our scoring offense broke down.
