I would challenge anyone to explain to me how it is reasonable to argue that VCU is 40 spots better than us without using some stupid metrics based formula. Don't tell me about resume or strength of schedule, just explain in basketball terms how VCU is that much better than we are. Isn't that what the selection committee is supposed to determine... who the best teams are? All the metrics and body of work obsessions have destroyed the selection process.

Yes. If all they used was NET we wouldn't need a committee. But they have to have some guidelines, otherwise they would just pick the teams they are most familiar with (P5). Its never going to be a perfect process and there will always be conflict. We all think we know better than Alice in Accounting until she wins the office pool because she made her picks based on uniform color.
I would prefer they pick the best teams and leave all this quadrant bs out of it. Metrics = resumes which equals 8+ teams from p5 conferences. This should not be about who built the best resume, it should be about who is the best team.

I disagree with the part about picking the best teams. This will never happen but I think they should pick the teams that have earned a right to play for a national championship. It's sort of like the old high school system in Indiana before class basketball was developed. It's what made the movie Hoosiers famous. Take each team in their conference that won the regular season and give them an automatic bye because they have proven to be a champion throughout the year. Next give the teams an automatic bye that won the conference tournament but didn't win the regular season. Then give the rest of the slots to the top ranked teams that didn't do either of the above. Now I know this would never happen because of the money the power conferences get now but this approach would be fair. I don't care how good a team is or what conference they are in. In my opinion , for example, if a team finishes 5th in the regular season in a conference like the ACC they haven't proven to anyone they deserve a shot at a national championship.

I would prefer this over the nonsense resume based approach that they take now, though I think 5th in some power conferences is certainly good enough to get in. Hell you could argue the 3 best teams in the country are in the ACC right now, and 5th could compete at the top of any other conference in the country.
