How about if he thinks Rice can have a competitive football program, he wants the Rice education. But he doesn't want to spend 4 years going 3-9 and 1-11. So his decision rule is simple--Rice if he believes the new coaches can get it done, WKU if not. Could be part of an interesting read on Bloomgren and his staff.

I'm guilty of projecting nerd decision hierarchies onto athletes. And the athletes are different. I'll wager even money that not a single undergrad currently on the Rice campus filed an application to WKU. It's just not in their solution set. Kentucky? yes. LSU? yes. but not WKU or ULM. there is just no overlap between those schools and our applicant pool. none. but there is in the football recruiting pool.

Because we are in CUSA. Athletically, we are peers.

Actually, when we go 1-11, I'm not sure we are peers.
