If they are to receive $250,000+ of education with room and board, an amount raised, in part, through alumni donations, why shouldn't I want them to be deserving? Rice has plenty of nice students who are highly academically rated. When Rice lowers its academic standards in order to admit athletes (or musicians), those individuals should be at a level at which they can contribute, in a meaningful way, to the university. Do we really want some honorable mention all-district player just to fill a roster spot? I'd rather save that scholarship for 2018-19, after a full season under the new staff.
