I was happy with the hire, but it was a risk because of his lack of head coaching experience. It could have worked out, but it didn't. We don't have the luxury to take another chance on a maybe, regardless of what his upside might be. People are running out of patience, and the attendance is getting alarming even by our standards.

For all the clamoring everyone is doing going on about a head coach, the only head coach that UAB can attract is one that is a proven loser or has some other type of baggage. Any small college coach is going to be on the radar of bigger programs and will be just as much a risk as an assistant.

I would rather have a experienced assistant from an established program. One that knows how to get things done in impossible situations than some has been who is counting his days to requirements.

Underwhelming, maybe. A gamble yes. But it pays off and won't be underwhelming when we hit the right one.
