That wouldn't fly - the big prize is national eyeballs on a football playoff and NCAA Tournament - doesn't work if its just 30-40 teams like the pros -

I actually think they should go to 4 18-20-team conferences - with 10-team divisions and a real conf champ game that essentially acts as a playoff round -

80 teams is plenty to break away from NCAA with

The 30-40 school breakaway would just invite some NCAA teams to their tournament each year, offering a little more to them than they could make in a then-diminished NCAA tournament.
