I don't see it as much as rewriting history as I do actively selecting who the university wants to honor and feature. There is no rewrite, the history is known & documented.

I would almost argue in a lot of these cases it's rewriting history to not tell their story somewhere on campus. Like someone like Matsu faced an incredible amount of racism while at W&M, it's an ugly part of our history, but we shouldn't just ignore it and act like everything was peachy for all 300+ years
