Southern CA was the best place in the world to live... 40 years ago. 30 years ago it was good. 20 years ago it was ok. Now it's halfway to Mexico as far as quality of life.
They still have wealthy institutions from being the best economy in the world from 1930-1999. But at this point they're a mere 40 years behind Cleveland in their decline.
Wow. Really wanted to lay a good ole blanket statement on California. Glad you found an opening.
Uh... I lived in the LA Basin 1989-2015. Captain Bearcat is spot on with his assessment. Would you care to point out exactly where he is in error?????
I was a Long Beach Cop (which is in the south bay of Los Angeles County) and lived in Orange County. My wife is an OC native... Make no mistake, you can get rich in California if you work your butt off. I fled SoCal with a $100k public employee pension (90% of my base pay) and traded a SoCal 4 plex that I bought in 1999 straight across (tax deferred) for a 40 unit in Cincinnati. And I sold my 5013 sq ft custom home in SoCal and replaced it with an old house in Amberley Village. And I also sold two small SoCal SFR's rentals before splitting...
But unless you have ever lived that traffic life, LA court at 8:30 am commuting from Orange County and then back home to Orange County and then back up to Long Beach for a 3:00 pm-01:00 am shift, and paid 9.3% state tax on every W2 dollar earned over $36k, you really do speak in ignorance. Sorry for the bluntness.
My house was over a $1m as was every single one of the houses on my street. Yet, my kid, attending public schools, had a temporary construction trailer in both 5th and 6th grade. Why?? Overcrowding. Why??? illegal immigration. My kid is now a Soph at Walnut Hills. We moved here for 7th grade year. No complaints so far.
I shake my head when I read the pro-california comments put forth by these smug Cincinnatians. Unbelievable...
