4 Philadelphia
5 Dallas
8 Washington DC/27 Baltimore(Navy smack dab in the middle)
10 Houston
19 Orlando
Only Memphis not ahead of Raleigh-Durham for the schools in the east. Boise special case because of their football results last 10 years. San Diego comes along with them as well- but they're still a top 30 market. Boise #112 fwiw
I really have to laugh at this list....do you not see that the markets you listed are all PRO markets. Orlando is the only questionable one and they have an NBA team....I was in that area recently and there was Tampa Bay Bucs stuff everywhere...how much pro stuff is in New Mexico or Nevada or Greenville NC.
The BE is the new Metro Conference...wonderful, except that you are on the last page of the sports section.
The difference between the old Metro conference and the Big East quite frankly will be hoops. Big East will have 5 sticking around teams making the tourney this year- Notre Dame, Marquette, Georgetown, Louisville, and Seton Hall. Cincy/USF/UConn are on the bubble- probably at least 1 of those make it. Temple and Memphis both will make the tourney. UCF has a shot(though tonight's loss is huge). That's like anywhere from 8-10 schools makign the tourney. The old Metro NEVER had that presence at all. That's hardly back page of the sports section material.
I agree that its a good basketball league, but dont think you can look at UCF basketball as a quality add with the sanctions they are about to get. And I continue to believe the Big East is vastly overrated every year (which we typically see in the tourney). Schools like USF get credit for competitive losses.
But the reality is that expansion is primarily for football purposes, not for basketball and media markets. Boise State was the only real football add...maybe Houston, maybe UCF. Its only the BE that is expanding this way...because they are looking out for their basketball teams. The BE is most definitely last page in football in most of these cities.
