RE: WVU paid $20 mil to get out of the BE in 2012. Is it worth it for Pitt and Cuse?
Just be glad you announced your departure before the exit penalty increase, because it's now $10-million, 27-month notice, and forfeiture of tv payments during exit.
Personally, I think sticking around could benefit them, a bump up of the Big East television money for 2013, could pay for the move out on its own! NBC Sports threw record money for FCS football yesterday in a bidding war with CBS Sports, anyone who thinks the Big East on the open market isn't going to score a PAY DAY between NBC, CBS, FOX, and ESPN is now in denial.
In regards to the ACC paying, the Big 12 paid to keep from failing to meet their tv contract requirement on a $90-million tier 2 Fox agreement. I can't imagine the incentive for the ACC would be there; adding a million isn't like losing ten million plus... I also think it'd make the ACC look bad, considering its on record saying it has asked the schools to abide by the conference bylaws. The only way those two get out early is if the Big East says okay, "we don't need you anymore, you can leave for this much money." *cha-ching*
