The United States is both a democracy and a constitutional republic. It is not a "direct democracy" in which citizens vote on every law but, instead, a representative democracy and constitutional federal republic.

The Constitution's framers differentiated between A. a "pure democracy" (with citizens ruling directly) fearing this could lead to mob rule and B. a "republic" in which chosen representatives govern via structured laws.

So to say the U.S. is not a democracy seems a bit misleading. It is simply not a direct or pure democracy.

At least this is how I understand it. I could be wrong.

Don’t be delusional. You cannot have it both ways.

Democracy by its very definition is popular rule.

Please do not conflate this with a mixture of other ideologies.

The clueless American populace believe these lunatics on the left that we are a Democracy.

Wake up Bill it’s not too late.

Are you contending the U.S. shows no characteristics of a democracy, B-Dragon?

I'm puzzled. I don't know this stuff well but it seems fairly clear from what many sources note:

I see this with simple internet searches:

In a representative democracy (aka a democratic republic), citizens elect officials who make laws and govern on their behalf. This model includes:

• Parliamentary Systems: Executive power is concentrated within the legislature, leading to coalition-building.

• Presidential Systems: The executive and legislative branches are kept separate with distinct checks and balances.

• Federal Systems: Power is divided among national, regional, and local governments.

Hell fascism has aspects of democracy. FFS what is your point.

It just seems the simple definition of democracy is sometimes turned into a "political left vs. right" debate on this board.

Does everything have to be politicized, SK? If I, a partial libtard, say that the U.S. shows characteristics of both a democracy, in general, and a constitutional republic ... does that agitate the "full righties" on this board? Is it that big a deal?
