BS, how so?
You think the right was sitting back being sweet between 2008 and 2016? There was drama. There were people threatening to move out of the country. Everything was a "get guns while you still can" moment. Even gay marriage.
Cool, calm, and collected was not a thing back for you guys back then.
Not caring for the president is one thing, doing what the left is doing is so so much more than just that...
I know. You guys were plain angels. Nary a bad word said.

I think there is a wide gap between being angels and what the left is doing now, and I think that the right in the Obama years fell somewhere in that gap. Not angels, but not the extreme we are seeing now.

Of course, this may just reflect buildup over time. I didn't think the republicans were as willing to work with Bill Clinton as they should have been. I thought democrats were much worse toward GWB, and republicans in turn were somewhat worse toward Obama, but the left response to Trump has ratcheted it up several notches. I don't recall restaurants throwing Obama staffers out, or republican congress critters calling for violence against Obama. Maybe I just have foggy memory, but I don't think so. Part of what restraint existed may have been the rapidity with which the left played the race card at any response other than subservient obedience.

A part of the trend that I find particularly alarming has been what I see as a shift from having policy differences to personal attacks. Heck, nobody discusses policies anymore, it's all claims that Trump is a despicable human being. I thought republicans erred in not talking more about policies with Clinton (the one time they put policies front and center they won their biggest election victory, probably ever). And their infatuation with Monica-gate may have propelled democrats to go more personal in attacking GWB. With Obama, republicans were limited in their personal attacks by the specter of racism allegations, but I felt that they wimped out when they should have been having policy discussions. Day one when they took the house back in 2011, I still think they should have passed Bismarck health care (the Heritage plan was tending in that direction if they wanted to go that way) and some version of Bowles-Simpson or Domenici-Rivlin or the best of both (they were pretty close on most things, so would not have been hard to do). But they lost their nerve to deal with big issues and just became even more democrats-lite than before. I don't think Mitch McConnell or John Boehner or Paul Ryan could lead a sex addict to a whorehouse.
