Yeah that's another thing... Why do they always hype them up to be on a special life changing course or something? This kid was going to college. Trevon was a small child that wouldn't harm a fly. Nevermind his rap sheet and current suspension from school, he'd NEVER have done something mean.

I will slightly offend some people here and tell the truth.

Because white America believes most young, black males from these innercity/black communities are mostly thuggish, druggie, criminals that don't have their lives together and live off of the system. The sad truth is that stereotype is not only real, but very true for many in these communities. Given this, the first thing folks try to do is to show that this teen is not like the other teens from these communities. He wasn't "doing anything wrong" and the cops "had no reason to suspect him of any wrongdoing" unlike the other boys.

If you say the young man was a C student in high school and is going to community college and had an arrest record (I don't know if that is true, just an example), then the portion of white America that listens to sound bites will find that unsympathetic and you won't be able to propagate the "racism in America" crap. So, we try to paint a picture that usually doesn't exist. Eventually the full truth gets out and we see the person for who they really were.
