It's common sense really. The teams that win and generate national interest will be the teams that have their games televised.

It's not always about beating the top seed. Deep runs have value, and not having to play the number one team the first round is very important if you don't have a realistic chance of beating them.
We won't have to play the number 1 seed. That's not how it is going to work. #s1-4 will get a first round bye.

Fair enough, I was responding to someone else who put that out there, but apparently you miss the point. The point being that you want to play a lesser team in the first round so that you have a deeper run.

I agree, and that will be the case. We will not have to deal with a top 4 seed in the first game. The biggest question I have is, will we ever be able to be in the 5-8 seed range in order to host a first round game.

One can hope, but all indications are that it's too early to say. Ha ha. Frankly speaking, just making it will be enough for me to be more than happy, but ask me again mid-season next year.

When the 12 team playoffs get started we’ll have a direct route for inclusion if we can be set up to dominate the American.
Many of our ex conference mates will find it harder and harder to compete or have a shot at winning their leagues in football and basketball. We will have a shot at winning our league year in and year out.
Moving up isn’t always the same as becoming better. I started a discussion (Link) on this on the conference realignment board. Keep your chin up Tiger fans. The best is yet to come.

We can either make lemonade out of our lemons, or just sit here and let them sour…….while I would prefer the bigger tv$ of a B12 invite even if it meant a hopefully temporary hit to our FB record & more FB & BB games on ESPN+, I will still be attending/ watching/ supporting the program regardless of what conference we are in.

RE: Quietly, a decade in The American
It's been a great situation for us, if not as good as we expected when we got the call. Going forward people can choose to whine about not being in the Big 12 or focus on the fact that we enter the season after next with as good a shot at playoff appearances, regular ones if we win our league consistently, as we could have possibly hoped for coming into this year.

P5 conferences will now have two maybe three teams per conference. An American team has to be undefeated to even sniff the playoffs. 11-1 won’t make the cut.
There is 1 access slot provided for the G5. The American will have the advantage on that slot every year - undefeated or not. If all five of the G5 champs have at least 1 loss, then the American would make the cut most years (unless the other team is Boise - then it will be a nail-biter).
The bar will be as high as possible. The seeding will virtually guarantee a first round loss.
What? We're talking about making the CFP.
The guy posted that we have to be undefeated to get a "sniff" at the CFP.
We don't.
We have to win our conference and be the highest rated G5 champ out there - which is possible even if we have 2 losses.
Winning the CFP is a different story - there are less than 10 programs in the country equipped to do that.

For any G5, getting there is the measuring stick, not deep runs.
The point of the discussion was seeding after we make it in the first place.
The initial discussion was about making it, period.
Someone here thought we had to be undefeated and that still wouldn't get us in.
Somewhere along the line, the discussion pivoted to "making a deep run" - which is, frankly, ridiculous right now.
No one is going to say we failed if we make the CFP and lose the first game.
The fanbase will grow and ticket sales will peak.

If some program begins dominating the G5 access slot, and stacks about 3 years in a row of CFP appearances, and shows themselves well in the 1st round games - I could see it.
There's no reason that cannot be us.

It was me who mentioned a "deep run" in response to a poster who said we wouldn't have a realistic chance to beat the number one seed. I stated that we don't have to have a chance and that making a deep run has value, but yes, even getting to the CFP would be a huge victory for the program and not something I expect us to do any time soon based on recent performance. I'd be happy with just being a threat in our conference, something that seems so elusive lately.

If 1-4 get byes then the 4 'first round' games would be 5-12 / 6-11 / 7-10 / 8-9 so assume the G5 is seeded 12th. Will be playing the 5 and the winner gets the 4 seed in the 2nd round?

Yes. 5-12 game will be at the #5 stadium. 4-5 game will be at a bowl site.
