Is our kicker a senior? It feels like he's been here a long time. But maybe that the punter? Ferenze is the SN. Richardson is younger. My bad.

Maybe we should brag up STF on our board and Toledo will come along and grab him. Or Temple. Or ECU. On 2nd thought, ECU probably will never get another AD from us.

RE: Official NIU-Toledo predictions!!!!!!
Read the recruiting thread on the Toledo board, pretty funny.
Most of the talk was about their #1 recruiting class, bu someone finally said "what does it matter if we don't win".
Hope they never figure it out.

The recruiting class does appear to keep Toledo from being a basement-dweller. They're almost always in the running. Just don't usually win.
Most of the time, you have to strike gold. Get that good QB, and a decent O-line, good receivers, and a competent enough defense.

Yeah... The receiver was open on a post and Rocky threw it late and 10 yards short. It was a bad pick.

That AD Mike O'Brien announced his retirement in 2020 after being at the helm for almost 20 years. He will officially retire in 2022. Everyone knows he is retiring. Trust me, he wasnt forced out by anyone, overall he is well liked and respected.
That being said, some of us do want to move on from Jason Candle.

One of the tenets that Coach Novak instilled into the foundation of this program was to have a strong O-line. The recruiting pipeline created in Wisconsin and Iowa still remains fruitful today. And it always seems that each coach always recruited one strong O-line class every four years and let them grow together to a great line by the time they were seniors.
As they say, the game is won in the trenches. Toledo never got that. Their self proclaimed #1 recruiting classes were always based on quarterback and running back.

Toledo had a series of really good years - when they had good QBs like Gradkowski. NIU had good O-lines then, and good running backs, but never won the MAC. They won with Harnish and Lynch, and once with Hare. Only exception was the one year with Childers. When we lost to BG it was because they had Matt Johnson, and they were much worse when he wasn't playing.

Spot on. And Hammock, being a former Huskie and RB himself, knows the importance of a good O line. He always talks about how football is a BIG mans game and it is showing this year. Our O line is big, physical and playing well together hence why the running game has been strong. I also like #83 the big TE - he's a good blocker too.

Yes, but the Minnesota pipeline seems to be running a bit dry lately. Although, Hammock is opening up Nebraska and Kansas pipelines (as well as NJ & GA) nicely.
I would add skill players, WRs and ATHs, to that. Then they convert those “Athletes” to WRs, CBs, Safeties, and even QBs. Problem seems to be that they do very little “coaching up” with those players and seem to just rely on those “star ratings” and natural athletic ability to do their job for them.

Absolutely correct! Actually, the Grotto was on my side and helped me sue the manufacturer (Wun Hung Lo Industries from Hong Kong) when the balls got stuck in the machine.
