Conference Realignment
I've admittedly not been active on this board for a long time, but with the news of Big 12 expansion today, I wanted to come back and check the fan pulse on UT and conference realignment.
It does not seem like UT is considered an immediate serious candidate for AAC expansion. Regardless, this is still a topic that affects nearly every FBS program.
So...
Do UT fans want to leave the MAC?
Is there any word if the university is actively trying to leave?
If so, is there a preferred conference destination?
How do you think things will play out in the MAC over this next decade?

Would love to leave if it makes economic and competitive sense, but I’m afraid upward conference mobility has come and gone for Toledo.
If anyone moves up I’m guessing Buffalo, we don’t seem to have the will or resources.

RE: Conference Realignment
I like Pete Thamel's idea of the G5 starting to look to make more "sense" instead of "cents" seeing as how most all of the media rights contracts will be within a couple hundred thousand dollars now. No sense in having a conference that goes from Pennsylvania to Texas or southern Florida to damn near New Mexico if there is no monetary reason to do so...realign with more care to geography, potential rivalries, and regional feel. No way it'll happen, but it makes far more sense than just having dominoes continue to fall on down the line.

RE: Conference Realignment
Toledo joining this AAC makes no sense with the nearest school being more than 500 miles away. Travel would be killers cost-wise as every away game for every sport would likely require a plane ride. And could be bad for athletes sport/academic balance in sports with regular mid-week games (basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc.)
AAC will probably try to raid CUSA, which will likely cause that to implode. MAC should step in and make sweetheart offers to the more northern CUSA teams - WKU, Marshall & MTSU to encourage them to join. Those would all be good fits for the MAC and expand the media footprint and could maybe allow renegotiating the ESPN contract. MAC Could then boot EMU to maintain an even number (EMU doesn't add any media market being too close to UM, UT & BGSU. Or could boot BGSU if preferred I guess.)

EMU has the most titles of non revenue sports. I kind of think BG or Ball State would be better candidates to leave. Akron if it wasnt for Soccer.

True of EMU, but conference alignment is less about what you bring to the table on the field as it is what you bring to the table to help with revenue - so if you aren't adding a media market or adding top of the conference attendance figures, the performance matters less, IMO.

Toledo is not going anywhere in 2021-22 because MOB is not in a position to make a decision like that. I think the guy (or gal) that replaces him will be a direct indicator of where the vision is long term. Hire from a P5 and the direction will be to look bigger and for growth opportunities. Hire from within, G5 or FCS / DII level and we are going to be looking at ways to stay competitive without spending any more.

If you have Athletic you can read this. This writer does not see any MAC programs moving because of the tremendous subsidies that most of the school athletic programs have to stay afloat
how do i read the article without the popup coming up ?

Won't matter who the next AD is, moving to another conference would be ultimately decision of UT President and Board and as others have mentioned the economics (increased travel costs alone) doom any such idea. Its simply not in the cards given current budget situation at UT-keeping in mind the football program and UT Athletics don't make money, they are high subsidized from UT general operating budget, hence why it would be UT administrative decision and not left up solely to AD. That dream has long since sailed folks.

I could see a new conference being put together. The top MAC teams. Maybe the top Sunbelt, CUSA and AAC. Maybe it would not add too much travel. But for The Rockets to just up and leave the MAC would be a mistake. Depending on where we go I believe that could add way too much travel for away games.
