RE: 2021/2 EMU MBB Roster
Kevin Rice was the (more efficient) Willie Mangum of Delta College, averaging 25 points per game on nearly 19 shots.
https://www.deltapioneers.com/sports/mbk...inricee8g6
His game log is pretty wild. How does one get up 33 shots in a 40 minute game? Pretty insane. Sounds like someone who’s incredibly confident in his outside shot, so that will help. It’ll be nice to see what shooters can do in a functioning offense.

Safe to say he’s probably going to be our point guard. Crazy vision and slithery as hell with the ball.
Those are some good highlights.

Nice find. I have to adjust the lineup! That’s an amazing highlight package for a young man in a professional league.

PG - Spottsville/Savicevic/Clements
SG - McBride/Rice
SF - Golson
PF - Binelli/Ballard
C - Okongo
Spottsville, Binelli, and Okongo do not count against the cap. So, we still have 7 scholarships to give! Maybe even 8 if Ballard can be moved back to walk-on...
Here's another way to play with the current roster:
PG - Spottsville/Clements
SG - McBride/Savicevic
SF - Rice
PF - Golson/Binelli
C - Ballard/Okongo
I think we need a better starting PG and C to be competitive in the MAC. I really like the trio of McBride, Rice, and Golson.
Ok, new update based on Sam’s videos:
PG - McBride/Savicevic/Spottsville/Clements(redshirt)
SG - Rice
SF - Golson Jr.
PF - Binelli
C - Ballard/Okongo

Off topic, but did anyone see that former EMU guard Kevin McAdoo transferred to Detroit Mercy?

Close to home. Good for him. Amazing how a kid can play at 3 D1 schools.
It would be nice to see Shamar Dillard come back to EMU.

He finished the season as a starter for the MAAC regular season champion. As a freshman. Pretty impressive.
Some advanced stats from last year on Golson Jr. (per Torvik):
-His offensive rating was 96.8, which is slightly below average, but probably not too bad for a freshman.
-His usage was 14.4, which is low.
-His assist rate (2.4) was very low, so he’s probably not a great passer yet.
-He doesn’t block shots.
-His free throw rate is low (16.7), so he doesn’t get to the line much. But that may be ok considering he shot 44% from the line (4/9).
-He’s a great finisher on dunks and close twos. Like most players, he should avoid long twos (25%).
-He’s a legitimate 3-point threat (38%; 9/24).
Overall, seems like a very good prospect. His obvious athleticism means he could grow quickly. He’s already a wonderful leaper and finisher, willing rebounder, and deep threat. Needs to work on his free throws and passing.

Good stuff! Free throws are a big thing for someone that largely prefers scoring around the rim. If you can’t make them, you’re going to get fouled hard every seemingly time you get it down low.
Something tells me he will pair well with a passer like Savicevic.

I agree with you 100%.
Something that crossed my mind: Given his low rate of drawing fouls and struggles converting on them, in combination with his shooting ability, he may start out at the 3. He and Rice could really spread out defenses.

The remaining offers Stan extended according to 79 are listed below. Seems like Stan is trying to build a strong backcourt as a foundation, and then strengthen the Frontcourt.
C 6-11 Marko Milivojevic
C 6-10 Javantae Randle
PG 6-3 Keyon Menifield

I see 3 seniors who don't count against the 13 scholarship limit McBride Ballard assuming he keeps his scholarship Wells as a walk on. That would leave 11 scholarships left and we have used 4.

I don't see us running out of scholarships BUT holding on to some for NEXT recruiting season.
Why? The scholarships for 'super seniors' will vanish after next April.
If we bring in 13 players who have 2022/23 eligibility, we'd have zero scholarships to give to our next recruiting class. No new coach would do that not knowing how his 2021/2 recruits will pan out.

RE: 2021/2 EMU MBB Roster
With all the talk about how athletic departments needlessly suck money (especially at EMU), I don’t see a need to exceed the standard 13 scholarships regardless if we can. I know tuition scholarship is not a “real” cost in terms of external payments, but room&board, stipends, travel, uniforms/lockers,, etc are “real” costs. Unless there are true diamonds that you can’t pass up. EDIT: Also, Steve raises a very valuable point for next year.
Also, with all the talk about fairness to players, I would NOT EVER expect/accept a scholarship to be taken away from Ballard. If it is, then I will join Dansplaining in the “revolution”.
My guess/hope/expectation, is Heath fills 3 more spots.
