I agree. And Hofstra is still on Long Island, it's not like he was halfway across the country. Probably helps us, but it is tough to see the CAA lose talent, especially to a low major.
That's why I said perhaps there were issues behind the scenes. He was a CAA all conference player already playing near home. Dropping a level just doesn't make sense.

Keep in mind he quit basketball originally. He only recently decided to play again and jump into the portal. I have to imagine something family related convinced him to play at all and if he were going to play it would be for said family member.

Believe you're confusing Kante with Tareq Coburn, who supposedly stopped to focus on school, then transferred to St. John's?

No, he's not. Kante initially left the program and was supposedly done playing. He later decided to enter the portal.

Per Hofstra's message boards, Kante left originally to pursue playing pro somewhere and provide for his family, not quit basketball. Appears decisions all family related, regardless.

Perhaps LIU is providing for his family

RE: CAA MBB Transfers 2021
Unless I misunderstood the FloSports writeup on NU, it appears that Joe Pridgen is eligible to play this year at Northeastern and must have received another waiver. I thought the Covid transfer waiver rule didn't apply to players who had already transferred once? So, Holy Cross to UNCW to Northeastern with no coaching changes at any of his stops and no sit outs required. The NCAA is totally worthless. Sorry, but that's a league player I have no respect for, and it makes Coen a sleaze bag in my opinion. I guess they'll say he came back to Massachusetts for family hardship reasons. I hope Trask Coliseum gives them hell this year and that all of the league follows suit when NU comes calling. CAA coaches are bound to give Coen a cold shoulder going forward. I hope we drill them on New Year's Eve, and am just sorry students won't be there to harass them.

https://www.flohoops.com/articles/718136...stern-team

Not sure who any previous one may have been, but apparently not the first time NU has taken an intraconference transfer.

You can always get another waiver. The NCAA apparently doesn't care. Several players this summer did the same thing.

I'm sure they threw a bunch of "hardships" at the wall and he signed whatever application the AD's office put in front of him.

The NCAA has been more and more liberal granting hardships the last few seasons. Throwing Covid in the mix made this offseason a free for all.

Our interim coach when McGrath was let go, Rob Burke, is the coach at Chowan. I'm sure it was amicable. Estime hadn't played a full season in three years due to injuries, and he's now a grad student.

There are so many small D3 schools I've never heard of that are basically just propped up by athletics. Looking them up quick, they have 1,5000 students, but 23 sports (including football). There's a real chance well over half the student body is a varsity athlete.

Football roster alone looks to be about ~140 kids, that's almost 10% of the entire student body (and probably like 20%+ of the males enrolled there) https://nicholsathletics.com/sports/football/roster

Article brings into perspective how many transfers the CAA has incoming. Truly drives home, to me at least, that we have no idea how things will shake out this year. So much change and so many newcomers. Chemistry is a fickle thing and has brought down many teams that look solid on paper. It will be fun to see which teams gel and which teams disappoint.

Google says 40%, which you will see is not an outlier for tiny schools with no Greek life. It's one of the easiest ways for a smaller, less known diploma mill to differentiate itself.

It was posted in the season thread but I’ll put it over here too:

From Jake Lieberman:

“Thatcher Stone (@stone_thatcher) from William & Mary has entered the transfer portal.

Stone is looking to find a new home at the end of this seamester. Stone averaged 2.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.”

Looks like a complete rebuild is coming to Charleston once they settle on a coach

Brenden Tucker is on CofC’s roster so it looked like he stuck around.
