Honestly, at this point—who else could possibly make any sense at all? It has to be CUSA vs Sunbelt/BYU/Army in the Indy.

Can you expound upon this? The taxpayers are not subsidizing the Independence Bowl. I'm just curious how you know all this.

I'm well aware of the hotel/motel tax. Which is a tax on hotel rooms in Shreveport-Bossier City. The tax paying citizens of that community are not out a nickel on this. Do you really not know how common this is?

It would not surprise me that ESPN buys the Independence Bowl very soon.

Why did AAC pass? Do you have a link showing they were offered and passed to share?

It is not one of our primary Bowl tie-ins which we announced yesterday. Or part of our lesser Bowls vs non-Atonymous Conferences.
It could be a secondary tie-in like we(AAC) are with the Liberty Bowl(B12 v SEC). Which was not in our official release. Liberty Bowl we slot into before our lesser bowls if SEC or B12 can't fill both spots.
Will be interesting to see if ESPN buys it and/or can get PAC to slot their last team in vs BYU/Army if elligable with AAC or someone as backup to fill.

No link because is total fabrication. The AAC wasnt even offered the primary slot for the Independence bowl but they still have a secondary like CUSA

I think that’s one of 3 possible options. One is CUSA vs SB (or a mix of Indy teams). Another is negotiating a spot in the ESPN bowl pool. The third is just flat out selling the bowl to ESPN. Depending on who ESPN already has tied up—options 2 and 3 may be their only viable choices.

I doubt ESPN or the Independence Bowl will want an AAC tie in because of their pathetic bowl records. Better conferences to choose from such as the MWC and CUSA.

Or, Houston and Memphis would be attractive draws. But if the AAC sends Tulsa, Tulane, or SMU, it could be an attendance bust. The larger public C-USA schools (North Texas, UTSA, UAB and Southern Miss) would sell more tickets. And, of course, Louisiana Tech.

I doubt it really matters which conferences get tied to the I-Bowl. At the end of the season there is so much horsetrading, a significant number of the lower bowls end up with match-ups that are different from their actual ties.
Personally, I'd like the I-Bowl to be a C-USA bowl with the opponent coming from either the AAC or MWC.

OK. Enlighten this Hillbilly. Why don't we own the I-Bowl? We've got La Tech and (to a lesser extent Southern Miss)just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Independence Bowl. And, in years when you can't lure a PAC12, B12, MWC or AACK opponent; you've got a couple of Sun Belt schools pretty close by as well. I can see CUSA vs. any cartel team being a big hit. When the bigger dogs don't show, how about North Texas vs. Ark. State? ULL v. La Tech or Southern Miss v. South Alabama? CUSA (you name it) vs. (You name MWC or AACK)? CUSA ought to purchase the I-Bowl now.

AAC already had completed their bowl lineup and wasn’t interested anyway. That’s what I meant. Maybe passed is the wrong word.

Is there any money in the bowl now? Bowls are far more about who you play and how much you get, not how close they are. If the matchup in Shreveport is garbage, why would we want just another place to send someone that no one cares about?

Looks like a lot of fans on your message board were interested in the Independence, just scanning through the comments on your bowl thread.

Agree, some fans are. What I think happened with the AAC bowl contract is that they tied 4 spots into ESPN Events bowls. Aresco said on Memphis radio in late May that the Detroit bowl had interest in a AAC/B1G matchup, but he couldn’t pursue it due to NCAA bowl limits...meaning the AAC was already at full capacity. If that was the case then, it stands to reason it remains so now regardless of fan sentiment. The I bowl seems to be finding itself betwixt a rock and a hard place.
