Tarleton State and Azuza Pacific have been mentioned as potential call-ups.

If UTRVG wants football now is the time to press for it.

Hmmm... I wonder if S. Utah would be interested in the WAC now?

That's what I was thinking.
Sac State
Tarleton
Dixie
AP
RGV
SUU
NMSU
is a nice nucleus for 2022 WAC

That would be a no.
I checked the Big Sky ByLaws. There is no provision to end associate football membership. Cal Poly and UC Davis can remain football members as long as they want, they cannot be kicked out. And nobody wants to leave the Big Sky for the WAC, nobody.
One thing I found interesting in the article is that UMKC is actively trying to exit the WAC due to travel costs. I wonder what Dixie State heard that makes that likely. There doesn't seem to be any indication the Summit wants them back.

you sure no one wants to leave the Big Sky for the WAC? Sacramento State would have another in-state member to play with. Larger markets than in the Big Sky. Higher conference prestige.

Yes, I'm sure. I have a friend who is in tight with the Sac State athletic department. The Cali schools are not going anywhere.(The causeway classic is the only game that matters at all). You also forget the general anti-religious school sentiment among the leadership of the California public Universities. CBU and GCU are, uh hell no.
But you should know that as a Santa Barbara alum.

Here is my take on Dixie St move. This will move them past S. Utah in 5 or so years. The St. George region is 4 times more populated than Cedar City and is growing. The WAC is a more prestigious conference and this year shows how much the WAC has improved with their OOC wins and how Cal Baptist has been doing adding to the WAC strength.

why can't Dixie St. be a fb only in the Big Sky to give them 14. It would make scheduling easier. the 7 in CA, UT, AZ would play each other plus 2 or 3 from the north side w/o having actual divisions.

If the WAC wants to have a realistic chance at bringing in existing D-I programs, they need to make travel manageable, i.e., become a western-only conference by waving goodbye to Chicago State, UMKC, and UTRGV. It's one thing to offer D-II schools their only outlet for moving to D-I. But D-I western schools that are already on tight and heavily-subsidized budgets won't want to bust those budgets sending athletes to Chicago, Kansas City, and the southernmost tip of Texas.

This would be putting pressure on Colorado Mesa, Metro State and Tarleton State to move up.

Too bad the Big West has no interest in bringing back football. An FCS league of, say...
Dixie State (FB only, all other sports WAC)
UC Davis
Cal Poly
Portland State
Sacramento State (FB, men's soccer only. other sports WAC)
Northern Arizona (FB only, other sports WAC)
...would solve Dixie State's and Sac State's problem.
I think this would make terrific sense for all parties.
just bring back the Great West Football Conference and be down with it...lol

this makes too much sense...2020 would also coincide with UND football moving from the BSC to the MVFC...

It will happen eventually, but the WAC has to have at least seven active Division I members. With Bakersfield leaving, the WAC still really isn’t in a position to boot anyone.
I can’t see the WAC renewing Chicago State after Cal Baptist finishes its transition on June 30, 2022. UMKC will probably be encouraged to leave as Dixie State wraps up its transition. UTRGV’s eventual replacement should be joining in 2022 or 2023, and by around 2027 the WAC should have eight members, all of whom are fully Divison I:
Seattle
Cal Baptist
Grand Canyon
Utah Valley
New Mexico State
CSU Bakersfield (until 2020)/Dixie State (2020 - future)
Chicago State (until 2022)/??? (2022-future)
UMKC (until 2025)/??? (2025-future)
UTRGV (until 2027)

Summit might not be realistic for UMKC, but would the Southland or OVC?

RE: Dixie State to join WAC
Splitting the BSC into two football only conferences makes sense.
3 Cali schools , NAU, Dixie St, SUU and Northern Colorado
PSU, EWU, UI, ISU,WSU, UM and MSU in the North.
Big Sky could run both like the MVC runs two conferences.
They considered doing it with UND but decided not to.
Makes more sense with Dixie st taking UND's place.
Long term NAU and SUU make sense in the WAC minus CSU and UMKC.
NAU would be a tough sell but NMSU, CBU and GCU would be a plus for them.

Don't think Davis would go for that alignment. It would destroy their football strength of schedule -- just look at this year's Big Sky standings.
Also, there's no guarantee that the FCS playoff committee would give each conference an autobid.

UMKC is not leaving. The guy that wrote the article just referenced things that are out there. UMKC left the Summit and joined the WAC six years ago and they have been rumored to leave everyday since. UMKC has openly indicated a desire to join the MVC in the past. Nothing else. They have a new AD and he is trying to fix the athletic program.
The WAC is ranked #16 among the 32 conferences in NET ranking. The OVC is #23, the Summit is #25 and the Southland is #30. It is barely a lateral move to conferences with the same revenue. Conference moves involve entry and exit fees.
UMKC is not the most attractive athletic program. They have no football. They have no baseball. That works for them in the WAC because the WAC does not have football and the WAC has ten baseball schools, so they really don't need UMKC baseball.
The basketball program is in its 30th year at the D1 level and has never made the tournament and has had 20 losing seasons. Their men's soccer team is almost always at the bottom of the conference. The new AD has a lot of work to do to make this athletic program attractive.

RE: Dixie State to join WAC
SoCalBobcat78,
Never say never on UMKC. I'm sure they're working on the Summit. This forum way overstates the "baseball crisis" of the Summit. Lots of options if that ever comes up. Baseball is not a blocker. But UMKC has other issues they need to deal with.
Basketball rankings mean nothing among 1 bid conferences with basically zero revenue. UMKC left the Summit because they thought the WAC was weaker and they could be a top performer. (So much for that theory; the things that made you stink in the Summit are the same things that make you stink in the WAC.) So that argument holds no weight.
But overall I agree, it looks like the article writer threw out every internet speculation we have on this forum without checking on them. Examples include UT-RGV for football, even though the then associate commissioner of the SLC who was in the discussions with them said that they made it pretty clear they were FBS or nothing in football. There is no indication NMSU would drop football to FCS either. And the As for UC Davis and Cal Poly, there is no reason for them to leave Big Sky football, and no mechanism for the Big Sky to remove Football associates or regular members short of some horrendous scandal and violation of major NCAA norms.
