Another point. I'm making my comments based strictly on an artistic rendering. The real final product may look substantially better.
Point taken.

Old pic? Looks like east stands they are facing and they are are far more complete in reality than in that pic.

I noticed that, too. The caption was more telling of the progress.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Surely they will put something under the seats. When someone spills a drink or drops something it would land on the heads of pedestrians on the concourse below. How do other stadiums like this handle that issue?

That picture was from almost a month ago. They are already filling in those gaps in the stands.

Yes. That pic was from a portion where the risers had not yet been installed. If you look at the construction cam of the east side you will see that the left third or so has them in place.
Things will be in place when the keys are handed over. We are all a bunch of nervous expectan parents at this point. LOL

RE: NEW stadium construction
Not to bring back old wounds, but here's a comparison of press boxes across the conference.
UNC-C
FIU (It's really hard to determine what their press box actually is)
FAU
LA Tech
Marshall
Empty Sue
North Texas
ODU
Rice
Southern Miss
UAB (current)
UAB (new)
UTEP
UTSA (middle to the left)
WKU
To sum it up: I don't think ODU will have the worst press box, but we will have far from the best. I also don't think it is as well integrated into the rest of the stadium as some of our conference mates do.

Agree. All in all, some butt ugly stadiums in our league.

And pretty much all of them are even uglier from the outside looking in.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Might as well rank pressboxes, because that's what I do in my spare time I guess. Based on the pics from BT:
1. UNT - nice brick framing, several levels
2. UAB - new renderings look good, but possibly shouldn't be rated since it's not built yet
3. UTEP - simple and clean
4. UNCC - brick with mostly glass is a nice look. Looks small, but fits with the stadium size.
5. La Tech - prominent but looks outdated
6. USM - sleek ish. Can't really tell it's there, which I guess is a good thing
7. FAU - looks like a hotel was built behind the stadium. Way too monolithic.
8. WKU - simple construction, pretty plain
9. Rice - outdated, doesn't really fit with the enormous stadium
10. MTSU - outdated, very boring, very outdated
11. Marshall - outdated and doesn't really fit
12. FIU- can't really tell, which is probably a bad thing
13. UTSA - possibly the worst large stadium in the country, and the pressbox doesn't help
NR. ODU - will wait until stadium is complete, but it will probably fall no higher than 3rd on this list behind UAB, and can't be worse than 9th

RE: NEW stadium construction
I wonder if Charlotte will demo or incorporate the current press box into the future expansions. I know it was build to expand several times over from previous renderings I've seen in the past

Keys/trash will probably be OK, liquids on the other hand will drain right through. Ever walked underneath the stands at the racetrack in Richmond? Nasty. This is why concrete is better. Although at this point I'm not sure how much pedestrian access their will be directly under the stands. Another one of those wait and see items.

RE: NEW stadium construction
This was probably touched on last year but couldn't find it quickly. Is anyone able to get a full screen camera view, or is everyone's in the smaller pop-up window?
I noticed Ballard is using the same video system for JMU's Convo center, but on their's I can get a full screen view. Just curious.

hah! That would be terrible. I looked at cam and east side on the bottom looks completed and filled in but not the top.
