RE: NEW stadium construction
So is the stadium, on, ahead of, or behind schedule for the NSU game?

https://www.newodustadium.com/media/1117...ering5.jpg that's all I have seen to go off of and yup, it's a rectangle. It's also 2 tone with what appears to be a mostly glass facade. I don't expect the final product to be all one color like that. https://www.newodustadium.com/media/1115...ering3.jpg in this render you can see some variation in color and detail. I think the renderer chose to focus on the stadium and seating and not the boxes.
https://www.newodustadium.com/media/1113...1med-1.jpg from that angle it looks pretty good to me but again not sure why they opted to not render out the press boxes, they're just all gray. I'm indifferent to the need to have a all brick enclosed exterior. Those days are gone due to costs.
Have to say I agree with Monarx. Press box looks very flimsy and reminds me a bit of several cargo containers lined up. I think the fact that it is elevated over the concourse makes it look flimsy. If it were solidly attached to the seating area it would look more substantial.Instead of appearing to be a seperate structure just placed on top.
No offense, but do we truly care what the pressbox is going to look like???

At this point it's the crown of the stadium at its highest point. Arguably the most visible element. So for now, I care what it looks like. If we get suites around and/or on top of it, the look of the box wont matter as much because it will be less prominent, and hopefully those other places will draw your eye away from it.

It's one of, if not the, most visible piece of the stadium. The press box and NEZ stand out as sore thumbs and greatly detract from what is otherwise a fine looking stadium. Personally, I'm not crying about it, just hope the stadium can impress recruits. Sight line, comfortable seat with leg room and aPA system that is intelligible plus an improved score board are all more important to the game day experience for me. Just pointing out what I see as a couple of negatives.

I guarantee not one recruit will look at the press box and say "I'm not going to ODU; I don't like their press box."

Come on Jump. I expect better from you. I said impress, not determine. A wordsmith should be able to distinquish.
Another point. I'm making my comments based strictly on an artistic rendering. The real final product may look substantially better.

Not that directly. But its all part of the brand. The quality and style of the stadium reflect the pride and commitment to the program. Even if only subconsciously. Recruits are comparing their offers on many levels. Facilities, landscaping, marketing, attendance, campus pride etc all make a difference in swaying a recruit to some degree. Its not all about coaching, games on TV, conference affiliation and whatever amount of money is offered.

Can you name any attributes about our conference mate's press boxes without looking it up first? Because I can't and I've been to Charlotte, WKU, MTSU and Marshall.

They're missing a great opportunity here. The press box should be all glass, rounded, with a crown on top.

They might be a little behind based on the youtube video schedule but I see no reason that they wouldn't finish on time.

I think 65 million shows plenty of commitment, not to mention change in coaching staff, a pretty damn impressive OOC schedule w/ ACC schools coming to town. Lately, you've bitched about everything from not offering Wilder's son a scholly he had n interest in taking to the stadium press box. The NEZ, which you know we don;t have the $ for right now, is a pet peeve you can't solve but, like others, continue to beat into the ground.
To me, our facilities are fine for where we are as a program, the campus appears to be pretty well landscaped, I doubt a kid thinks much if anything about marketing -- if he's good enough he'll get publicity, ask OX -- our attendance has been good, kids have commented on fan support. I think at this level, most kids and their parents are interested in football, yes, but also what degrees they can earn and future opportunities. We just had 2 kids drafted, umpteen signed as FA, got a couple playing in the league who have come back and extolled ODU's virtues. You're just looking for something to ***** about and I'll give you credit: You're good at it.

There will very likely be some final finishing and painting that will need to be completed between the 1st game and 2nd home game. Also, some of the concessions might not be 100% operational. Our season opener will be played in the new stadium.

That's what I think will happen. Overall the stadium will be done and functional but there might be some fine tuning over the first few weeks and games as kinks are worked out in concessions and such. Maybe some audio or video issues and timing to work out, paint, stuff like you mentioned. All fixable stuff.
I'm sure the punch list will be pretty hefty so if you see little blue pieces of tape or some sort of sticky with a number on it leave it alone. =]

Doubtful, the current turf is getting pretty beat up from the construction and its already 10+ years old. They are not going to open a new stadium with beat up old turf.
