Imagine if we didnt get Davis. Im tired of people defending BW. Is he really getting it done on or off the field? Do we really need to hold on to him until we have a 2-10 season.
Is Wilder doing it on the field?
09- 9 wins
10- 8 wins
11-10 wins
12-11 wins
13-8 wins
Transition to FBS football
14-6 wins
15-5 wins
16-10 wins
17- 5 wins
They have been on the best startups in the history of college football; both at the FCS level and the FBS level. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. BUt, there aren't many teams that have won 26 games in their first 4 seasons in FBS and generally they are teams with a long established history in FCS. I mean, we could be in the same spot as Charlotte right now....thankfully, we aren't.
Is some criticism fair? Sure. Can you claim he's not getting it down? That would be a harsh criticism.

I know people have been blaming the stadium, but these kids seem to be posting pics of the phase 2 renderings, so can’t be that. At this point we have to at least question the performance of bw. I get concerned when he just harps on how tall everyone signing is. I really think that 80 to 20 loss to unc did more damage than we realize. And now it’s more about not getting the doors blown off vs. actually competing to win.
I disagree here. None of the kids we're recruiting watched or remembers this game. It'll doom us fans forever though.

Sorry should have been more clear. I meant that loss impacted the mentality and obsession with just recruiting size. And playing it safe to avoid getting blown out again.

One thing WIlder does not do is play it safe to avoid blowouts.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2018
I don't even know how anyone could expect BW to be fired right now. Dude is one year removed from a 10 win season, not to mention the string of winning performance before that season. I've seen posts say that we didn't play anyone but seriously, who were we other than a startup FBS program? He cooked that 10 win meal while moving up using FCS ingredients and that was an accomplishment, no matter how much one fails to acknowledge it.
Yes, the recruiting is less than our South Florida mates--particularly when we sit in the 757 hotbed. Yes, the play calling often lacks creativity. And yes, it is appropriate to criticize anything else that is not up to par.
But firing the coach? Wow. Sounds eerily like another poster that spent hundreds of lengthy posts back in the day talking about firing Blaine Taylor during seasons that he was heading to another NCAA appearance or fresh off an earlier NCAA appearance. He may not have advanced in the tourney much, but thinking that ODU could seriously fire someone for that reason?
News flash: This ain't one of the many state-owned institutions that gets to waste taxpayer money on whiplash coaching decisions like most of them do in the P5. Hell, we're one of a few state-owned institutions that has been refused the opportunity to build a critical facility on the lame excuse that its students shouldn't have to share in the cost! It's an entirely different standard over here. The day ODU can fire a coach for non-cause will happen many years after it builds a decent stadium. And it appears that we're far removed from that day.
Rant over. Carry on.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2018
While I am not happy with the recruiting trend of being at the bottom of C-USA and the country. How it translates to wins on the field and BW should be doing better (especially Nagy). Last year we had so many injuries that 5 wins was not the worst thing in the world. I think if didnt lose Ray, Cox and Duhart we would have gone bowling.

Anyone know why we keep recruiting tightends but fail to utilize them?

We used them a lot at the beginning of the season, but White and Woods both got hurt and Vaughn was more effective spread out wide.

We do utilize Tight ends just not at the tight end position.

Some are fall back options, probably most are. But Marshall got 4 recruits become signed LOIs on signing day that basically just fell in our lap because their original schools didn't handle the early signing period right. The schools they intended to sign with over signed in the early signing period and they were squeezed out.
Markeis Colvan ATH - USF
Talik Keaton WR - USF
Tyquavious Terrell WR - Ball State
Jaquan Webb WR - Mississippi State
All 4 3* players. I realize that not all come from P5 programs. But then again Marshall's top 3 QBs in statistics didn't have 1 P5 offer in Rakeem Cato, Chad Pinnington or Byron Leftwich.

This is not really the right place to put this, but I did not want to start a new thread. We've had a number of discussions on ranking systems and what they mean. 247sports says this guy is a two-star running back -- when he looks like a four-star all day long and twice on Sundays to me. I suspect we will be hearing a lot about him in the years to come. What do you guys think?

Looking at his offer list, I am guessing he either played against much inferior competition (his school shows only 389 students grades 6-12) or just too slow for his size at the college level.

Hey, Cal. I just thought it was a video folks would enjoy seeing, felt like he was under-rated at two stars, and wondered if anyone else perceived it as I did. SDF opined that it was likely he was playing against inferior competition, and that may be true, but I was impressed by the young man and thought I would share. As far as I know, we never had any interest in him and as I said, this is probably not the right thread for it. So I suppose just disregard.
