Tent city + log-cabin siding and gravel sidewalks.
The temp location is gonna look like sh*t, but the old DHall must be replaced, and hopefully "dHub" will meet the short term needs. The good lord only knows how the HVAC will function, and I can only imagine the nightmare it's going to be to put in the plumbing and other utilities at that location.
The new DHall will be a great addition, but for the next 2.5 years it's going to be a giant construction pain in the arse for the students living on campus who would have otherwise eaten at the old DHall.

I think the biggest problem for us is going to be parking. There are already major parking issues on campus. And Dhub is just going to cut into the baseball lot parking. The new parking deck on south mason wont be done until the summer of 2016 so its going to be hell for a semester and a half.

RE: D-Hub
Parking has always been "an issue" around campus. Every year there's letters to the editor regarding parking and Breeze articles, etc. You can oldManYellsAtTheClouds.jpg me, but I don't see it. I haven't had a ridiculously difficult time parking , and the times I have it was my fault because I didn't have enough time to park where i thought i could, then go find another spot in a neighboring lot. That's not a parking problem, that's a preplanning problem on my part because there's not a parking deck next to the particular building I'm trying to access. The hotspots are mostly full - east campus commuter, Champions Deck, Warsaw deck, etc - but basically there's always spaces in R1, R2, C4, and convo... people just don't want to walk from there.
Despite the parking complaints, JMU added a billion spots where Rockingham/Hojos was, and the Mason/Main/MLK parking deck opens in 9 months, so there's some growing pains, but I really don't think it's worth the space the complaints have taken up in the newspaper this year. There's more spaces added, there's more coming, and there will be a huge bump when the convo deck gets done (in before the complaints about no parking anywhere while it's being built and the spaces taken offline because of convo construction).

Well, if it's any consolation there were "major parking issues" on campus 20+ years ago too.

Yeah I may be 10 years removed, but the parking issues back then really just boiled down to students not wanting to walk half a mile. If you go to an area around a major building at peaks times, yeah... The perfect spots might be taken. If you drive another 1/10 of a mile, you'll find a spot.

Parking gripes have been around forever. I used to get so many parking tickets down there it was ridiculous. Between the campus cadet nazis and the HPD, a parking scofflaw like me never stood a chance.

Aramark went through a dining hall build/temp dining hall situation at UVA a few years ago...Aramark can pull it off as well as can be expected.

Perhaps it's just the vision of meals served under a temporary tent. Images of military "mess" halls come to mind.....<shivers>

Thanks for the pics. Was going to swing by there yesterday after the WBB game but we went and checked out NURec instead and I forgot to go down to R1.
Rendering looks very nice.
