Should be interesting what EMU does.
As I suggested in a previous post, the 2016 MI senior h.s. class was very thin with D-I talent.
As I also suggested 2017 is expected to be very deep. If I follow Steve Bell's statement correctly, it would be the deepest senior class in MI I can ever remember.
This should set up this hypothesis: Murphy didn't recruit hard thin senior classes in MI but will be in with both feet if the class is deep.
If the class is thin, he'd rather go JUCO or transfer.
Will 2017 be a big recruiting year for EMU within MI??????

Just a Steve Bell comment on the 2018 class:
"Steve Bell @BankHoops 5h5 hours ago
2018 is Michigan's deepest class in five years, D2/3/NAIA should be all over the 10 teams playing Saturday at Olivet."

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
One think I like is that Murphy doesn't waste his time and energy (and fans' false hopes) on players he has no realistic shot at signing.
What were the probability of this 2018 recruit signing with EMU or worse yet, Rice? Why would a B1G recruit sign with Rice?

Ty Groce transferring to EMU from Northeastern per verbalcommits.
8/6/2016 - 2016 SF Ty Groce (6-8, 190, 2★) is transfering to Eastern Michigan from Northeastern.
Had offers from us, Akron, U of D, Rice, Toledo, Cornell, Oakland, Ill State and Kent St in high school.
Actually had 14 offers:
http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/a...his-month/
Think we may be down to one scholie for the 2017 class.

I was just going to post.
I'm trying to find out more about him. I can't find him on the 2015/16 Northeastern team.

Here is an MLive.com article on him:

EDIT: I'm checking out Blue Ribbon Yearbook (2015/16) and can't find a mention of him.
EDIT2: I don't have access to this forum but questions were raised why he left NU. My guess is that he signed, enrolled, but did not play. Not eligible????

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
BTW, if he as it really appears, sat out last year and didn't play at Northeastern, would he have been better of going to say Schoolcraft C.C., play a year and sign in November?
If he sat out academically he can 'regain' that lost year if he graduates within 4 years (as I understand it).
Otherwise, he is a transfer sitout and has 4 years to play 3 (having spent one of his 5 years last year).
Having said that, it really seems that Murphy is very comfortable with having players transfer into the program, sit a year and practice with the team and then be better for it.

Bizarre to transfer before you even start your freshman year. Was there a coaching change at Northeastern? Will he need to sit a year?
Attendance will rise when you sign a local kid.

EDIT3:

His bio was removed from Northeastern's web site. It could be something as simple as a family emergency and he needed to be home. I never understood why so Michigan high school players go to out of state schools only to transfer closer to home in a few years. Or he was dismissed from the team for discipline reasons which may explain his abrupt departure and lack of public comment.

So we get our SF to give Bond rest and comfort...
I was completely confused that Groce is a 2016 graduate but since Murphy hasn't had many Michigan recruits I pretty much did not follow the 2016 MI class.
I'm really liking the 2016/17 and 2017/18 EMU team...
EDIT: I still want to hear more. Is he academically qualified? Did he start classes at NU? Etc.

FWIW, I went to prep hoops and they have Groce ranked #7 in the 2016 class.
Boy, did I go down the wrong track when I saw the word 'transfer'. Complete curve ball.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
This is from a UDM fan forum. Notice the targets that they have who are being recruited by the power conferences. Sounds like they are barking up the wrong tree(s).
Also, the 2017 MI h.s. class appears to be very, very strong and we'll see the big boys combing through it like crazy. 2016 had TWO players who went to a power conference. Who knows for 2017: 5 - 10???
