I'd guess that he and Turner (Detroit Renaissance) are the two best unsigned h.s. guards in MI.

I saw a little of Towns in the state final. He's a pure PG. Not a great shooter but a good ball handler and passer. Seems like he has a high basketball IQ. Looks like a borderline D1 player because of his size but may be OK in the MAC.
Turner looks very smooth in his highlight video. He's legit D1.

Didn't know former EMU player John Bowler is an assistant hoops coach at Des Monies Community College.

Guess we have that school locked down with Bowler, Naz, and now Steele.
My favorite college team to watch is EMU.
My 2nd favorite college team to watch is going to be Des Moines Community College.
That college has to be a good place for a big man to learn his craft. Those who remember John Bowler remember him as a 'beast' inside, a really, really good post player.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I have NO idea at which level or conference or school he'll look but Javon Bess (MSU - Columbus, OH) is transferring.
Highly ranked recruit who didn't become a star, but might elsewhere.
Wonder if he'd consider a MAC team? Got plenty of MAC and A-10 offers out of h.s.
Marvin Clark jr. is also leaving MSU.

I would kill for Marvin Clark. That is a very talented kid who was a victim of numbers in his time at MSU. Good shooter, and can play both forward spots. I think he goes high major though.
Javon Bess never looked fully healthy in the last two years. Even when he played, he looked extremely tentative. Izzo even mentioned as much, saying that Bess looked "afraid to jump". High risk, high reward type player that'll probably end up at a mid major. Worth giving him a call, in my opinion.

Bess might benefit from a (transfer) redshirt year.
Players hate to sitout but it gives them a chance to heal the body, gain an academic year of classwork, learn the schemes, do S&C, etc.
Some might call it 'delay of gratification.' The payoff is there for those who are patient.

RE: 2016/17/18 Men's Basketball Recruiting
FWIW, FOUR (!) players have/are leaving Ohio State.
Don't know if we are interested in ANY of the transfers from MSU, UofM, OSU, etc. I count EIGHT players from those three schools who could probably find Ypsilanti and the Convo with a map, but without GPS. Lol. (OSU - 4, MSU - 2, and UofM 2, including Albrecht and Doyle, who announced yesterday).
As things stand, I still assume:
One big man, Steele, from Des Moines Area C.C.
Probably one PG, most like a JUCO (we have no pure PG behind Toney). This is our thinnest spot. Not sure I would trust a true frosh if something would happen to Toney. Murphy has had good luck with experienced players like Talley and Toney. I believe he has had a number of high school PGs who did not last including one from N. Carolina a few years back.
And one recruit who could be "Best Available". Could be a h.s. SG. Maybe a grad eligible SF. Or simply a player who is too good to pass up, including a sitout transfer.
I'm noticing a real trend toward the JUCOs in the middle of the country, e.g., Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, etc.
Staff seems to be making a living at those JUCO tourneys which are a good 'showcase' for JUCO talent.

Good find.
Now we need the scoop on Justin Turner, a SG/combo guard, out of Detroit Renaissance.
I'm surprised his recruiting is so quiet. Maybe the Detroit News, Freep, etc. will have something when they do their all-everything teams...
Here is Turner's entry in Verbalcommits.com:
http://verbalcommits.com/players/justin-turner
Picked up a couple new offers last summer. Nothing new indicated in the last 9 months.

Verbalcommits.com and this Twitter account are the best for up to the minute recruiting happenings (as well as the ESPN.Com transfer page).
I assume ALL 351 D-I schools pour over this stuff 'night and day' looking for 'actionable intelligence' in the 'recruiting wars'... (I couldn't resist the hyperbole)
