Artist: The Beach Boys
Album: Pet Sounds
Song: "Sloop John B"
March 21, 1966 Capitol Records
"Sloop John B" (originally published as "The John B. Sails") is a Bahamian folk song from Nassau. A transcription by Richard Le Gallienne was published in 1916, and a version was included in Carl Sandburg's The American Songbag in 1927. Since the early 1950s there have been many recordings of the song with variant titles including "I Want to Go Home" and "Wreck of the John B".
In 1966, The Beach Boys recorded a folk rock adaptation that was produced and arranged by their de facto leader, Brian Wilson. Released as the second single from their album Pet Sounds, the record peaked at number three in the U.S., number two in the UK, and topped the charts in several other countries. It was innovative for containing an elaborate a cappella vocal section not found in other pop music of the era, and it remains one of the group's biggest hits.
In 2011, The Beach Boys' version of "Sloop John B" was ranked No. 276 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
"The John B. Sails" was transcribed by Richard Le Gallienne, with five verses and the chorus published in his article “Coral Islands and Mangrove-Trees” in the December 1916 issue of Harper’s Monthly Magazine (pp. 81–90). The first two verses and chorus were also published in Chapter IV of Gallienne's 1917 novel Pieces of Eight. The lyrics describe a disastrous voyage on a sloop, with the vessel plagued by drunkenness, arrests and a pig eating the narrator's food. In the chorus, the narrator repeatedly expresses a desire to return home.

Been listening to him since youngest days. Despite his politics, he was a great singer, peformer and songchooser (he wrote a bit, also, but mostly selected others' songs to perform kinda like Elvis.)
If you've never listened to them, these two albums were seminal in changing the recorded music industry record sales:
this was a later recorded version of the famous "Matilda":

Quote:Guitarist Tim Bachman, who co-founded the Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive along with his brothers Randy and Robbie Bachman, and Fred Turner, in 1973, died April 28, 2023 after battling cancer. His death follows that of his drummer brother Robbie just three months earlier. Both Randy Bachman and Fred Turner survive.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive, also known as BTO, formed in Canada in 1973 from the ashes of a band called Brave Belt, which Randy Bachman formed after leaving the Guess Who. The original BTO lineup that Randy Bachman (lead guitar, lead vocals), Fred Turner (bass, lead vocals), Tim Bachman (guitar, vocals) and Robbie Bachman (drums). Following the departure of Tim Bachman and the addition of Blair Thornton on lead guitar, the band’s commercial prospects brightened, with the back-to-back single hits “Takin’ Care of Business,” which reached #12 in the U.S., and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” a #1 hit.

Jonathan Marchessault's hat trick propels Vegas to West finals! Riley Smith and William Karlsson, all original Knights add a goal each!
Wow!
I didn't think they'd survive the historic Power Play of the Oilers. Johnathan Marchessault and two other Original Golden Knights did all the work. Only OBNE penalty for the Knights the whole game! Very disciplined play. The stats showed that 5-on-5 they were clearly the better team. Edmonton will have to do some work this offseason if they are gonna get McDavid and Dreisaitl to the Cup.
Kudos to Aiden Hill, who was traded for in the offseason for a fourth round pick from the Sharks. Usually, you hope to have two good goalies in a season. vegas has been blessed with four, and they've needed all of them. Skinner stumbled, but it was Vegas' night.
That series itself felt like the Cup series normally would. On pins and needles the whole time even when we were leading.
Now, I THINK Seattle would be the easier opponent in the West Final, but Dallas would allow me some earlier games to get some sleep.
Gotta pick Carolina in nthe East, but Florida has made everybody's brakets a mess, so watch out. Vegas-Carolina in the Cup would be fun!
