Saw Joe live in a small venue in 1987. Incredible guitar player. Here's a live cut from his second album Surfing with the Alien...

They hit their prime when I was in high school through my first few years in college. I never truly got their appeal. My HS friends were all about them though...

Tunes I actually liked from them were

Orange Crush
Radio
Dive
Man on the Moon
Everybody Hurts
*Stand wasn't too bad
*Losing my Religion was ok till it got played out...
*Shiny Happy People was better with the video to go with it.

Their former drummer Bill Berry wrote "Everybody Hurts" which is a truly amazing song. here's an example of how universal that song really is:

Artist: Paul Anka (the guy who wrote "My Way")
Album: Rock Swings
Song: "Everybody Hurts"
May 31, 2005 (Canada) Verve Music Group

Chris Cornell cries in his hands LOL.

But I could actually buy that as some kind of lounge remix.

Nope. I think Cornell would be proud he wrote such a versatile song that could stand the test of time. How about this version:

Artist: Stella Starlight Trio (feat. Karen Souza)
Album: Jazz and 90s
Song: "Black Hole Sun" (Jazz version)
September 5, 2006 Music Brokers Records

Scotland + Raw + Power + Rock = Nazareth. Before there was Brian Johnson on vocals, there was Dan McCafferty. I saw these guys live in 1986 in Cincinnati. They rocked!

...and the 1972 original version:

Artist: King Harvest
Album: Dancing
Cut: "Dancing In The Moonlight"
July 9, 1972 Perception Records

The track used a Wurlitzer electric piano throughout.

I like the original version best. Yes, the electric piano is cool.

The King Harvest cut reminded me of this tune (also released in 1972)...

I know this guy gets a lot of grief in the press, sometimes portrayed as a prick but I really like his stuff. This one came up on the playlist while I was mowing the other day. It's one of his more recent items but I've liked his music since the first time I heard him play.

Which was probably Seven Nation Army. I believe that's the first time I heard the White Stripes.

Jack White - Lazaretto

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

The Raconteurs - Level

That original version is right in my wheelhouse. I think I like the newer one better though. Both are enjoyable visits to the past. The newer one reminded me of when I enjoyed the first one and those were some good times.
