RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
i would be THE coolest moderator of the bunch amigo!!! lol.
but i just retired last december. it's the greatest feeling in the world not being tied to something/anything. i stay busy as heck doing what i want. i was still coaching pee wee baseball this spring and we went undefeated in division and 3rd place out of 38 teams in the tourney. life is good.
and this thread is by far my favorite since western moved to c-usa. of course i'm a sports fan or never would have found this place. season ticket holder in football, hoops, and baseball.
but to be honest as i've gotten older (55) i enjoy music more than sports. i've always had an equal love since i was young. but i've gotten jaded with sports somewhat. the pee wee baseball is still pure even though travel ball is reaching its tentacles that far down now.
i have learned so much new music from you and ww and all the other posters in this thread. i've bought several of them from itunes adding to a playlist that is now up to 680+.
just last weekend i caught a local band named Fat Box. i posted one of their videos in this thread. sitting at the bar bullshitting with a guy i found out their lead singer, keyboardist, guitarist is a music teacher at a local elementary school. and every weekend he and his friends jam out on a regional basis. from here to louisville to indianapolis to evansville to owensboro.
and they're really, really good. do hella rendition of frank zappa's 'cosmik debris'.
sorry this got so long. but i'd rather talk music than get into pissing contests with other fans even though my scot-irish blood lets me get pulled way too easily into them.
keep on posting those eclectic selections you're exposing your son to. i'm loving them as much as him.

I hear you dahbeed and I have similar feelings. Congratulations on simply enjoying life free of burdens. I made a post under Georgia Tech Swagger's thread (which I don't see anymore) attesting to your level headed approach but then gave you an out as you might have gone mad in retirement and may even have taken up drinking. All of it meant in good nature. Don't let others get you into anything that will spoil your bliss!

Artist: Ram Jam
Album: Ram Jam
Cut: "Black Betty"
1977 originally released on: TruckStar records, later on Epic Records
Nice reworking of an old Lead Belly tune. The Ram Jam "recording" was actually the same one originally recorded by Starstruck, the band at that time composed of Bartlett, lead guitar and vocals, Tom Kurtz, rhythm guitar and vocals, David Goldflies, bass, David Fleeman on drums.

inspired by seeing the movie.... what a shame how it ended...
ha ha! I remember getting both of these albums back in tha' day as soon as they were released. Oh what fun it was to play these for unsuspecting friends and neighbors! Nobody could believe it. It was raw. They took PE and brought it to a completely new level.
Shame that time has made what was an then incredible statement the beginning of a weak punchline with today's rappers overall being so unoriginal. I guess you can only have this kind of impact once. Kudos for the posts, PT!

Well. Easy E, NWA et.all, Ice T took the "California" style to the issues and reality to the masses which differed from the "real" MC's of the East like PE, KRS ONE, ATCQ, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane... ect... A lot more intellectual and politically minded in different ways. I think most west coasters used the sex rhymes as the comedic relief like say east coasters had Flavor Flav, dancers, ect...
I'm still a huge PE and ATCQ fan. Ice Cube has his moments but its more on a song by song basis with me now. Dr. Dre usually puts out good albums. Easy E, after that first cd, never really did great work IMO. Ice T had some good stuff for quite a while but I am more into Body Count now than I am in most of his new rap stuff.

Pretty much.. Hell Hath No Fury was much better in my opinion. I just remember being so pumped when they hit, Lots a great music from my home. Love representing seven cities any way possible. We got pride out here
