18 months...
The US oil industry is currently hemorrhaging jobs due to trumps incompetence. All their investments are tied up in Canada, which currently produces.
Where pray tell do you expect them to get the workers and money to achieve this 18 month Utopia...in a country with unstable infrastructure and a wildly uncertain government?
Do you really think domestic workers were the ones who originally drilled and built the infrastructure to handle the oil there? Tribunals awarded Exxon Mobile and Conoco Phillips 1.6 billion and 8.7 billion respectively after the last nationalization under Hugo Chavez in 2007. As for workers---according to you---sounds like plenty of laid off US oil workers are available for the job of putting that infrastructure back into working order.
Would you uproot your life in America and go to work there...in a country with an unstable government, a crumbling infrastructure, and a wildly uncertain future? And besides, unless trump is going to take your money and give it to the oil companies to pay those workers (which would still undercut their business model that they poured billions into currently operating in Canada), those companies aren't going to make that investment on their own.
Would you be in favor of our government giving untold billions to the oil and gas industry? Again, I thought we were broke? Remember DOGE?
Your asking if given todays difficult employment environment, would laid off oil workers be willing to come back to take high paying jobs with their former employer even if it meant traveling to Venuzuala? I suspect quite a few would. Do I want government money funding it? Im less enthusiastic about that----but if its set up as a loan or as the US being a profit participant---Id be willing to consider that as a reasonable option. Remember, we as a nation, also benefit by making Venuzuala a more viable state so we get less illegal migrants streaming toward the US (as well as existing US illegals from there electing to return home on their own). Even Harris understood this part of the dynamic----though neither she nor Biden ever had any clue as to how to accomplish it (assuming they actually had any desire to slow the stream of illegal immigration----which is a HUGE assumption unto itself).
Trump has said that he would expect the oil companies to pay for the startup, and if not, the US would pay, then be repaid by selling the oil themselves.

And you obviously haven't learned a damn thing about me. I have no clue how long it will take (nor do you), and I didn't say I believed it. I simply reported exactly what they said, so we could discuss it.
You think you would remember that after I've said it about a dozen times. I disagree with Trump and the right every damn week on something. Hell, I'm not even a Republican.
I just sound like one for now, b/c your side has gone so far left they're over the cliff, and you willingly went with them.
Well, I heard a clip last night...and as expected...it was trump who made the 18 month claim...which you blindly repeated...unattributed.
So, that's why I said stop listening to politicians. And I have a much better understanding on how long it will take because I listen to experts in the O&G industry.
You should try that sometime.
P.S.: You do you, but if I don't know a damn thing about a topic, I try not to just post random **** about it...in an effort to not come across as ignorant or unable to learn about said topic.
Dude, you need to release that pressure valve a bit before your head blows off.
It simply was news reported by Fox. Was pretty simple. They said initial estimates were it would take about 18 months to get oil production back online at levels they were capable of reaching with the right repairs and refining processes.
There is nothing else for me to reference that with. If you don't like it, tough.
And you don't have any more idea of how long it would take than I do, yet you act like you do.
Yes, I actually do. Because I listen to and learn from actual O&G experts. Not a slanted news network just parroting sound bites from a politician.
But again, you do you...and remain an ignorant affiliate member of the cult.

Before a single unemployed oil worker can take a job the oil companies have to throw the capital down for equipment. Oil companies don’t invest in new capex when oil is cheap.
Would they invest to get their own equipment (which was nationalized) back up to speed?

HUH? I had a geologist friend that basically told me these oil companies would jump at these kind of opportunities.. Incluiding the crumbling infrastructure ones, cause one they've got the land leases, they're pretty much unmovable (except in a case where they're threatened by a country's govt).
It's a matter of money. The oil companies invested a LOT into Canada and that's currently producing for them. If they go to VZ, mostly on their own dime, they pretty much have to reduce their footprint in Canada...where they are currently producing. It doesn't make much sense to basically rob Peter to pay Paul, especially when they'd have to wait years for any returns from Paul.
And newsflash, oil companies don't really want to have more oil on the market, that drives down the price...and their profit.
So, while geologically speaking there is certainly attainable oil there...and likely for a decent amount of time...there's just no financial benefit for them of trying to get it. Even if trump uses your money to fund it. It would still hurt them in the end with a flood of oil on the market. They'd be refining it and selling it for peanuts.

I can just hear the O&G boardroom discussions now, where they were really excited about going back into Venezuela. Then someone showed them the posts from Elvis and Tom and they decided to back off of the idea.

I'm sure Trump also has no experts in this field advising him either. He needs to get on Tik Tok so he can get educated.

Not really, as you know Venezuela is "cruder" crude (ha-ha fun pun for the morning!)
than even Canadas, and they BOTH have to use specifically formatted refineries to make them, so it's almost impossible to say that they'd "double up" outputs in this case.
And yes, some of the leases they do sit on to prevent over-production, but they still paid for those leases.
But this is just what I remember from my geologist friend and i haven't talked to him in a very long time.

Yeah. Venezuela tends to have heavier crude. A lot of refineries are designed to deal with lighter crudes like West Texas Intermediate.

But this is just what I remember from my geologist friend and i haven't talked to him in a very long time.
Yeah. Venezuela tends to have heavier crude. A lot of refineries are designed to deal with lighter crudes like West Texas Intermediate.
The issue of can is not really the issue. It's the cost and time. And the risk and cost of doing it in an environment with unstable governments, infrastructure, and future.

Not really, as you know Venezuela is "cruder" crude (ha-ha fun pun for the morning!)

The point is that i they pay for the lease for the land, they don't really have to do anything with the land, they can just sit on it and wait for a time when it's needed.

Psst...trump lies. And he doesn't have clue one about anything related to the O&G industry.
Are you aware that you supported Biden for 4 years?
Are you aware that Trump has connections and knows how to use a phone?
Are you aware that I have access to all the stuff you do beyond watching Fox News?
You used to make some sense now and then. But you have gone over the cliff since Trump was elected this last time.
I'm certainly aware you are either incapable or unable to use that access.
AGAIN, stop listening to politicians. They are not telling you the truth.
Or maybe you just get pissed every time somebody says something you don't like, or mentions Trump.
All Trump said was somebody would obviously have to pay for the startup costs. Either the oil companies or the US, hopefully the oil companies if they participate.
How is that wrong?
And again, I never even said I agreed with it. I simply reported what he said. Same with the 18 months that got you so spun up.
Take some Xanax, dude. You are apparently wound way too tight, at least when it comes to Trump.

There is a pathology the threads on this board take. They all start out like a hot pile of dog pooh where the smell attracts comment one way or the other, but after the light of day and a little time has passed the smell of the event starts to fade and only the tumblebugs who want the last word remain, because the truth was evident from the beginning and the only hope they have of helping the propaganda of their side is to have the last word. Their hope is to spin a pile of pooh turning white into something they can use. So, they roll over and over scratching at the hardening white outer decay of the issue in hopes of digging deep enough into it to drag the stench back up and create some false point to spin.
Now from a moderation issue the only way to deal with it is to simply lock the threads when they've outlived their subject matter. Nothing is more irritating to me than tumble bugs. When pooh passes its prime, the grass underneath only gets greener, but healthy grass can't hold the interest of tumblebugs.

And I'll own up to my share of that. I apologize for my fair share. It baffles me, though, when all the evidence is laid out by, say, my side (or at least the side I happen to agree with) and certain other people insist on clinging to strawman arguments and deflecting from the main points of a particular topic being discussed. So I react accordingly. (Should I? Admittedly, no so again, I apologize.)
I'm not saying what I'm about to say to blow smoke up anybody's backside. I don't like being a brown noser. That said, moderating a message board forum, especially this one, is a thankless job. Y'all really do put up with a hell of a lot, especially from me.

Well it sounds like Trump is NOT nation building. He's using money (coupled with reminders of what he could do) to change behavior of those beneath Maduro.
