He'll be gone for a week or so, and then he'll come back roaring about how Will Hall is going to be amazing and that he can buy any player he wants to. He'll also throw in something about academics for no reason whatsoever.

Either Tulane had very poor back-up plans or Hall really was a mole sent to crash Southern Miss the whole time.

Tulane with Hall and Memphis with Huff... Might be a while before the American has another season like this one. USF hire seems very solid, North Texas should be "ok" with Neal Brown, but I have some reservations about that.

A lot of questionable hires by programs that are supposedly trying to peacock strut themselves in front of "power" leagues.

They actually came pretty close to dropping to D3 in the late 90s or early 00s.

That would just make him awful at being mole too... he beat the team that contracted him 03-nutkick

I think this is the reality of people trying to save as much money as possible for the roster.

Jimmy's and Joe's and more important than X's and O's but X's and O's still matter enough that I wouldn't be making some of these hires if results were important to me.

I can’t remember exactly who said this, but one of the Tulane presidents or other admins. said (this was 1950s) that he was going to “put the athletic department on a diet”. That phrase haunted us for generations.

On the Tulane boards, the glass-half-full types are saying that Hall will do recruiting and relationships with administrators/ media, etc., and other people will handle in-game play-calling.

Sounds like a disaster in the making but too late now.

Troy people thought the same thing about Chip Lindsey...

Hall is just not a good head coach. He may be great as an OC though... sort of like Chip Lindsey. Going from Sumrall, who challenged everyone around him, to Will Hall is going to be night and day.

I will never forget the post-game interview after South Alabama destroyed us on ESPN/2 in which the first thing Hall talked about was injuries in our secondary.

We hadn’t scored a TD in 6 quarters.

It was at that point that I went out of my way to never listen to another thing he said.

It’s just bizarre. Why would they need to save money? They’re about to get 4 million from a playoff appearance. No idea if their conference shares that money though.

I come from a time and place where Memphis was the perennial doormat of our East division and Tulane was the perennial doormat of the West Division. We went 4-0 against Tulane in cross-division conference games, and none of those games were particularly close.

Happy to see those two schools with their new coaches. Collectively, they've hired the last two USM coaches, and there's like 8 total wins at USM between them combined!

I haven't logged in on this board in ages but the sheer shock of seeing Hall to Tulane got me to return. What on earth.

You know it's bad when even thewavefan is saying he's trying to be positive but can't find way to be excited about it at all.
