So the B1G has never had conversations with any of those four schools? Would seem like a lack of due diligence on both sides.

So the B1G has never had conversations with any of those four schools? Would seem like a lack of due diligence on both sides.

Exactly the opposite. Those kinds of talks go on all the time if for no other reason than the school wants to find out its own market value for when their next media contract with their conference rolls around. It's how they check on their leadership, the commissioners and the ADs. There is no news there! And even if North Carolina had an SEC offer in hand that they wanted to accept before they go to their trustees they will need to find out what the competition is offering and honestly discuss the merits of the offers monetarily and then defend their position on which they prefer with all of the other reasons, travel, cultural fit of the fans, intangible benefits which add to the profitability of the move (like the other conference's travel record to away games), the benefits of the relationship they have with their media rights holder vs the what they've learned about the other media rights holder, what their rivals preferences are if they want them with them in a new conference home.

Talk between entities is not news. The fact that Texas started talks around 1987 with the SEC and kept them up over the years until they announced in 2022 was newsworthy because of the duration and substance of the talks. The fact that North Carolina checked out the SEC's position on Duke should they have to make a move in 2011 was news. Not that UNC talks with us but turned to us when they were afraid the ACC was about to be irreparably damaged. Or that they opened talks in earnest immediately in the aftermath of Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC.

When outside events other than due diligence create their call to you, that shows a level of seriousness that checking your value does not. One is pro forma and the other is event driven. You see business relations daily most likely as anyone with a job does. You know where you stand when a crisis strikes and some of them call you.

Where the hell do you think Fluguar came up with Duke possibly going to the SEC? I read a lot of message boards. I knew from someone I know, and it was born out in an article in 2011 that UNC approached the SEC about Duke. When I pushed Duke as being a partner for the UNC here in several threads on the main board, it was literally 2 days later that his PAC podcast raised the prospect. Hell, when he first got started, or when I first became aware of him, he called me out by my screen name here to confront my take on a line item in the Big Ten's revenue stream which indicated a divestiture from the BTN. He said I made that up. When it came out that the Big 10 had sold 10% more of its shares to FOX his fat ass never mentioned it again, because it would show his ignorance.

I've got nothing against any guy wanting to supplement his income with a podcast, and he likely has a buddy in the athletic department at Minnesota who hears some things from time to time, and it is even possible like it was with Clay Travis was with the SEC that he is being used to float concepts so they can test public reaction to them. But a guru in the know he is not. One of his recent podcasts was right about one thing, but again in a way that didn't display his knowledge of how things happen. There are no handshake agreements. But that is a term that can be used when an actual agreement has been reached, but for reasons known only to the parties an announcement date has not arrived. There are a lot of legalities which surround process and disclosure. A screw up in program release with an SEC computer accidentally jumped the gun on Missouri's presser. That was egg on our face and raised concerns at Missouri. And since it was handled by a reporter we trust, Tony Barnhardt, who was then employed at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, I'm sure it created a bit of consternation for him as well, as his bosses would know that he held back newsworthy information they could have scooped.

I listen to a lot of ideas. Most I can dismiss because the sources claimed don't jibe with what I know could be legitimate. Some do. Nothing is ever totally in the bag, but the likelihood that UNC already has a deal in place with the SEC which simply needs the formality of signing and setting a press release date is quite high. Duke is my speculation based on what they wanted before. FSU is my speculation based upon what they have wanted before and what we have wanted before, and cemented in my belief that ESPN will not screw up their hold over a state of 22 million. Clemson has wanted to travel with FSU for a long time. Support for Clemson on m part is simply rooted in the belief that they are the most SEC like school not in the SEC but in the SEC's footprint. It merely seems a branding mistake to me if we don't take them. Frankly, I'm not sure what the heck Virginia will do. They had a whackadoodle president that was just forced to resign over Federal money and they have a new interim. But unlike Fluguar's take, it was national politics that forced that resignation, not some deeply hatched plot by the SEC's intelligence operatives, which by the way don't exist as when you are the wealthiest college sports conference in the nation you don't need operatives. You need people to answer the phone.

I've got nothing against Fluguar. He is initially entertaining and then the way he milks a tiny bit of an idea, or suspicion, or a take on news, becomes distracting and wastes your time. He manged a following and that better than I can say about some politicians.

Definitely learned something new there.

You are right on Virginia; I don’t know what they’ll do. If state politics tethers both schools together, they may be forced to rebuild the ACC or move to the Big 12 or form some kind of super league/conference out of ACC and B12 schools.

As the odds are better of you getting Flug to make you a hot dog, maybe it’s best to stay with that. Sorry to have distracted.
