SBJ: DAZN sublicensing ESPN college football/basketball games in Europe, MENA
DAZN and ESPN have struck a multiyear sublicensing deal for college football and basketball content to be aired in a large number of countries across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The deal covers up to 25 college football games per week during the regular season on DAZN, cover contests from the SEC, ACC and Big 12. DAZN will also have all CFP games in Europe and the MENA region, as well as a number of bowl games and “College GameDay.” DAZN also gets 20 men’s and women’s college hoops games per week each season, as well as 63 NCAA Basketball Tournament games (men’s and women’s). The package grows DAZN’s rights of U.S. leagues abroad, including NFL Game Pass in all countries except China and NHL.TV in all countries except Canada and the Nordics. Financial details of the pact were not disclosed. Key execs on the deal included DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev and Disney SVP/Networks & Sports EMEA Diego Londono.

We now have college programs and college sports rights holders making measurable efforts to expand to new and overseas markets. This was an area that private equity investors were rumored to point to as an underutilized or ignored revenue stream. University presidents are looking to expand their visibility, elevate their brand power and recruit more students during this so called student apocalypse.
I'm sure the Big Ten/Fox will follow suit.
In terms of this board, and in specifically realignment, I believe this will influence the selection process of conference expansion. Strength in brands would seem to favor market additions as the colleges would receive more revenue from overseas subscriptions.

I think it could be a game changer in as much as giving a significant leg up on research schools which tend to attract a lot of foreign nationals at the expense of their countries. The marketing for them would be so much easier to do with this kind of exposure.
It also makes the SEC's presence on overseas NETFLIX accounts make sense. SEC Storied and other such background stories will air overseas. The interest in it will be generated by people in other countries getting interested in the games.
And if anything pushes realignment past 20 to 24 something like this certainly could be a catalyst for that kind of expansion.
