Well sometimes there is no value in more medical procedures.
My sister has cancer and for a time, they thought they might not even try to remove it. She got the impression the doctors didn't think she would make it. Fortunately, her prognosis is much better now.
My Mother has severe pain from joint problems, but the doctors have told her she is too old for surgery. The recovery process is onerous and would be worse than living with it, with no guarantee of success.
I had a colleague who died in the last week who struggled with brain cancer for years. It took a lot out of her, but she maintained some quality of life.

Agreed. My mother-in-law died of brain cancer, and after a certain amount of effort, you want the quality of life for as long as you can have it instead of being trapped or hooked up to medications 24/7. She opted to end treatment as well.
It was tough, but we understood all the same, and she was much younger than McCain.

I'm not into weepy good byes. Every one of us gets our turn. What matters is what one does with his life. McCain has certainly lived a long and interesting life.
I give him credit for his service to his country in the military, but for his style of politcs, not so much. And I voted for him 2008.

Thanks. I didn't know how to voice my displeasure at this guys politics and you read my mind. You can never wish bad things on someone and the only thing that Ps'ed me off about him is that he adamantly held on to his office even with his prognosis. The ultimate in vanity. He hated Trump so badly that he could not give up his office and still wanted to obstruct. I honor his military service but condemn his political life and may God save his soul. He needs to ask for forgiveness by asking God to forgive his hate.
...and to squelch any ideas that I love Trump I don't. I don't like Trump the man but I love Trump the leader. He has done so much for this country and every American patriot should be glad with the things he's done.

What has he done?
Busted the bank and spent on future credit? A 6 year old could have done that?

Mach, if you're so blind as to not see what he has done then you have no place teaching our youths. You're very ignorant. See, I didn't say stupid, I'm learning tactfulness.

Busted the bank? Really? A $150 billion a year tax cut busts the bank but the $800 billion per year or so already baked into the deficit did not? Really? Where do you draw the line on busting the bank?
If you're willing to give up the $800 billion, then you might have standing to comment. But until then, you are out of line.

RE: McCain ends his cancer treatment
My father-in-law was diagnosed with glioblastoma 10 years ago. He lasted from August to March, and that was with what was then deemed an extremely successful removal of the tumor at Duke in October of that year. He had the same surgeon Ted Kennedy did. It was a tough time for our family, prayers to the McCains.

Hate to see anyone die especially from such a brutal disease. My uncle died of this, it's a little like accelerated Alzheimer's, for him first to go was memory and sight, then motor skills, he went to hospice care and died within a week of being admitted. For him the diagnosis was late and he died within 6 months of finding out.

RE: McCain ends his cancer treatment
I want to die like my mother did, fast and furious. She always said that she wanted to go fast so to minimize any suffering at old age. She also didn't want to be anyone's burden like so many of our oldsters are. She died of an aneurysm. It was very painful, sure, but it did the job that she wanted. Me too. Thank God that cancer doesn't run in our family but heart attacks do. My neighbors sister had cancer and she fought it to the very end and at the end she suffered a lot, and that's no way to leave this earth.
A few months back my wife told me to take my BP and it was 185 over 100 something. She said you're going to the doctor. I told her what for, maybe I can kick the bucket like my mom and she said (and the doctor too) that not everyone dies in a stroke as some come out all messed up and can't do anything for themselves not even do personal business by themselves. I certainly don't want that that's why I agreed to see the doctor and now I'm on BP medicine. At the doctors it came out 202 over 100 something. Ha, ha, she wanted me to go to emergency and said "no way". I didn't go, went home instead.

that's one of the craziest things I've ever read...'my BP is 202 over 100...no biggie'
this board never ceases to amaze.

High blood pressure is the silent killer. You get on top of it and stay on top otherwise you might be moving your scalp once for yes, and twice for no, when you're asked if you're ready for a diaper change.
Think about that.

Not for me it isn't. Memphis the difference between you and me is that I'm not afraid of death. I'm afraid of being fed and taken care of hand and foot, that's the main thing. I know you're an atheist, I'm not. Remember what the Bible says, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". Take your pick which is better? *mic drop*

there's a difference between ignoring an obvious health issue and not fearing death...I mean, life's not a race, I'm not trying to get to the end first.
if taking some pills is able to keep me healthy for an extra few years...cool.
