It's a tough decision to make, but I'm sure it's the right one for him and his family. God be with them.
Very sad.
Tough way to go for anyone.
Tons of respect for the guy. F the politics of it. I certainly don't agree with every opinion the guy has but who cares.
I don't care for his politics but I respect him and his family's long history of service to this country.

Godspeed John McCain.
Regardless of what DJT says, you have to respect anyone who became a POW serving our country.

I wish Jane Fonda had spent 5.5 years in the Hanoi Hilton.

This is something I didn't know:
"...In mid-1968, his father John S. McCain Jr. was named commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater, and the North Vietnamese offered McCain early release[47] because they wanted to appear merciful for propaganda purposes,[48] and also to show other POWs that elite prisoners were willing to be treated preferentially.[47] McCain refused repatriation unless every man taken in before him was also released. Such early release was prohibited by the POWs' interpretation of the military Code of Conduct which states in Article III: "I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy".[49] To prevent the enemy from using prisoners for propaganda, officers were to agree to be released in the order in which they were captured....[38]"

McCain was in prison for another 4 and a half years.

I see your comment and raise you a Bowe Bergdahl.

That guy wasn't captured doing his duty. He deserted his post.
Yea it gets to a point and your quality of life left just isn't worth it. Hate this for him. I voted for him in 2008 and never regretted it no matter how he's playing things the last few years.

Here's to comfort.
I cannot even imagine what goes into making a decision like that, knowing that the finality of your life is here.

God rest his soul, regardless of anything else.

In death, I will say nothing more bad about him.

He might have been too old for this...my neighbor up at my summer home in NY was diagnosed with glioblastoma. After surgery he started wearing an Optune Device over his skull. He is in remission still. He has beaten the odds so far. One of the worst cancers to get.

I am not as sympathetic to McCain today as I would have been in years past. An honorable man, yes. Served his country to almost the ultimate sacrifice.

But politics, at the end, really soured me on him.

I think this is sort of a symptom of our divided country. The truth is--he was a great patriot when he was serving and probably is still today. I have no doubt he truly believes the things he was doing politically were good for the country. He made me really mad on several occasions. I havent agreed with him much lately---and I actually think he may have got a little too wrapped up in being a "maverick"---but I have little doubt he probably thought he was was doing the right thing.

The problem in politics these days is you cant just disagree with someone anymore. The other side has to be Hilter or Stalin if they have a different opinion. Thats an effective political messaging technique---demonizing an opponent and energizing ones base---but it has also caused our nation to become more and more strident and divided. Thats not a good thing.

This x’s eleventy thousand.........

Demonizing is effective, energizing, but polarizing. When you watch different news channels it’s evident why we have a divided country. The polarizing comes at a great cost to out country and our enemies exploit it.

Well said.

I pray for the McCain family. I can't imagine making a call like this. Hopefully his final days are comfortable. Cancer isn't a good way to go.

He held grudges. But that was nothing new. He held a grudge against GWB. It didn't change a whole life.

the campaign against him in the 2000 primaries was pretty dirty.
