Yes. Everytime I hear a scientist say, for instance, that water is needed for life or that all lifeforms need to be carbon based, I just wonder about that one dry sandy planet out there where life is silicone based.......

Well if UFO's represent intelligent life visiting earth then we are definitely the dog. I would love to think the truth was out there somewhere, but whatever we are seeing are probably three generations of development in craft ahead of what we are prepared to admit.

I was fortunate enough to see an SR71 in '69. And that was still a few years before we admitted we had it and I'm not sure we've ever admitted what it can really do.

I've always figured that if aliens visited Earth they laughed and left. After all we produce gozillions of plastic crap that we put into the oceans where it sublimates, sinks, and kills the bottom life and where the degradation of its compounds lead to sterility in marine life. And we take perfectly good food from the surface and modify it to be deadly. Then we take an energy source the waste of which cannot be disposed of safely and the operation of which has to be extremely precise while making even more deadly waste and locate them on fault lines. Brilliant!

Would they want first contact, especially here? Not if they are intelligent. Any alien stupid enough to land here has to be equally stupid, or hostile!03-wink

Think about it. We pollute where we eat, bathe, and drink. We kill our own for any number of reasons. We've destroyed most of evolved nature and keep building where hurricanes and fires destroy. And we plant our dead where we should be growing food. We've taken the two most fertile regions (Napa & the Shenandoah Valley) and paved them over for subdivisions. And what's more we have space programs. If aliens are visiting earth it is simply to monitor when they need to wipe us out in order to keep us from spreading our idiocy to the solar system.

And as far as living in Memphis goes??? Good food, good music, fun time. But, you live over the crosshairs of the New Madrid and Pre Cambrian faults and on a river where numerous nuclear power plants are located. One day you will shake, sink, and turn out like a microwave dinner. Have a nice day!

I don't deny that the're may be life on other planets. I seriously doubt however that they have developed anything closely resembling the human race.

IMHO, for us to ever be visited by extraterrestrials, they would need to be similar to us in certain aspects. Some examples would be 1) appendages that could manipulate tools - especially fine motor skills, 2) the ability to create written records to preserve technological gains and knowledge, 3) the ability to transcend nature (shelter, irrigation, etc) and 4) be social creatures willing to build societies.

More examples can be given, but I think the key is that something like our hands would be critical to evolving intelligence. Environmentally, the planet would have to be close in size to ours or space travel likely would not be possible and the world would likely have to be able to support controlled combustion.

You left out that they must also have an odd number of digits on the appendages attached to whatever limbs they may have. Giving the middle finger seems essential for dealing with us.

Haha, perhaps our hypothetical aliens are more verbal and don’t need our advantage in nonverbal communication!

I've mentioned this before, but perhaps the universe is full of life but the idea of earth time isn't prevalent. What I mean is that an alien life form visits earth and sees the dinosaurs. Well, that depends on how closely they can approximate the speed of light and whether or not they are indeed able to fold space or utilize worm holes.

That's another thing.

Listen I am no scientist, and certainly understand physics about as well as I speak ancient Icelandic, but the idea that our current knowledge of folding time, worm holes, or even physics, is absolute is ludicrous. My guess is that physics is as maleable as putty with the right technology and traveling faster than light and using worms holds is perfectly logical, possible and will someday be as common as calling up an Uber to get downtown.

First assumption would have to be that the physical laws of the universe are consistent in all locations. I believe they would be.

Agreed, but subject to the scale of the gravitational forces in the specific regions.

Agreed, but subject to the scale of the gravitational forces in the specific regions.

Which I believe limits the size of the planet for technologically advanced civilizations to have a space program given our experience with propellants on this planet.

RE: Are we alone?
I've witnessed some weird things in the sky. I would have to admit they are UFOs because I'm not sure what I saw. As an ex-aircraft mechanic I've worked on and have seen the majority of US aircraft and this things that I saw weren't anything we had at the time.

I actually believe there's alien life (besides the ones that jump our fences) in our midst. For sure when I die I'll be asking Jesus a lot of questions. 03-wink

I have questions though.
