ULM can be both much improved and play their best game in more than a decade, and Liberty have a bad day and still be a good team.

UAB can have a good team and still have a lot to improve.

How these things became mutually exclusive ….

I haven't seen a single person post that we aren't any good. I just wish we were better in year 5 since The Return than we were in year 2, or year 4. I don't think we've really improved as a team since 2018 and our offense is the main reason. It's the obstacle to elevating our program so it's going to be mentioned and mentioned again until something changes.

Why though? Is anybody on here satisfied with our offense, and mainly our QB play. If so, I haven’t really seen that person be vocal about it. There just isn’t anything we can do at this point to change what we are. We can not be thrilled with the way things are going on offense, and not bring it up every five minutes on here. We don’t have to pump up everything is fine all the time either. But you guys suck the wind out of any win by saying things suck and we suck unless we play ****** teams every week.

At other schools, when an offense or OC friggin sux, and the fans are upset about it, most head coaches make changes…. Some aren’t stubborn enough to even have to hear outside noise to know that a change needs to be made.

Why would he change it as long as he's winning.
"This offense sucks!"
"But we're winning, so it doesn't suck enough to change"

Did no one listen to the broadcaster in the USM game talk about how he brought up the amount of penalties we get and and one of the coaches said, to paraphrase, as long as we're winning it's ok.

So with that philosophy there will be no change in the offense. So enjoy the ride, buckle up, and scream as loud as you can. Because the car gonna keep rolling.

RE: Southern Miss Game week - B'ham Blazer - 10-17-2021 07:26 PM

UAB won't beat any top G-5 teams or P-5 teams with a bad offense, and 100 yards a game in boneheaded penalties. Also, Clark won't land any coveted SEC job, or any other P-5 job for that matter, with his current staff. He is at UAB to stay.

Man, what this board needs is more broken records.

Because his teams struggle to beat anybody that's any good. Because what UAB is doing in Year 5 isn't better than in Year 2. Because our facilities are top 5 probably in the G5 and on the field we're not in the top 15. Because if you aren't improving and someone else is (UTSA for example) then you're really falling behind.

Southern Miss Game week - Smaug - 10-17-2021 07:50 PM

I've been a UAB fan for a long time, but I don't think I'd ever imagine that a 34-0 road win against Southern Miss would entail such bitching.

I guess we really are big time now.

Is USM a good team? No.

This isn’t about yesterday’s game.

The thread is supposed to be, but it wasn’t us that introduced Liberty to the thread.

Southern Miss Game week - Smaug - 10-17-2021 08:07 PM

Odd, the thread title suggests otherwise.

Except nobody griped about the Southern Miss game. I thought we did what we were supposed to do against one of the worst teams in the FBS. Less than that would have definitely flipped the ***** switch. This isn't 2010. We should expect to win those games and win them convincingly.

The problem with most CUSA games is losing them can cost you butts in the seats at the next home game but winning them won't gain you any new ticket buyers. We need more than the status quo but we blew the one decent shot we've had so far. Looks like we might get another one in San Antonio in few weeks. I hope we're up for the challenge.

RE: Southern Miss Game week - DuelingDragon - 10-17-2021 08:13 PM

The actual title is “Southern Miss Game Week” … which is kinda the entire point, and the entire reason this thread continues is the insistence that in it, a game won 34-0, we must discuss for the 2 millionth time the same points by the same three posters.

I don't count just three people that have said we need change on the offensive side of the ball. But don't let facts get in the way of your narrative building. I hope somebody is paying you commission.

Nobody forces anyone to discuss anything. If you want an echo chamber then start a members only board or something.

If the self-appointed fan police didn't feel the need to respond to every ******* critique or somewhat negative comment, these exchanges would never happen. So if you don't like it, don't do it. Problem solved.

In addition to that, he says "we must" like someone is making him, them, or whoever talk about these same points. They sound irritated about these "same points" supposedly being brought up over and over again but yet they keep responding to these "same points" when they could just simply ignore the noise if they wanted to................but they can't do it, don't know how to do it, or don't want to do it.

RE: Southern Miss Game week - The Answer UAB - 10-17-2021 09:53 PM

Count me in with the guys who raise the same issues that make everybody so mad. I just don't post as much I guess.

Clark is the best coach we've had, probably by quite a bit. He isn't perfect. BUT - his flaws as a coach are very obvious at this point. As a PROGRAM we've grown tremendously the last few years. On the field, we grew quite a bit at first, and have been stagnant since 2018. I don't see much change or improvement or positive momentum with the team from 2019 to 2020 to 2021. Even in 2018 we were still plagued by a lot of the same problems we have now, we were just able to overcome and win a title and a bowl game. Some changes have to be made if we want to make appreciable progress ON THE FIELD. While I'm sure this isn't actually the case, I'm becoming concerned at the staff are happy with the status quo and aren't striving to do more. Nothing that has happened on the field suggests we're striving to take the next step.

We kicked USM's butt. They are absolutely awful. We did what we were supposed to do. You don't get bragging rights or brownie points for shutting out maybe the worst team in D1 this year. It's what big time teams are expected to do.

Were there really 21,514 people at the UAB-Southern Miss game yesterday?

RE: Southern Miss Game week - BlazinBham - 10-17-2021 10:25 PM

It didn’t look like it to me, but I was sitting in the nosebleeds on the press box side. Couldn’t see much of the crowd below me.

Y’all I’m convinced the reason the offense i# bland is we don’t have a QB who is dynamic. You don’t ask them to play outside 5heir skill set.

Does anyone know how the freshman QB we signed this year is developing? His HS tape showed promise

We have needed a game changing qb for years. The guys we have had have been serviceable, but we don’t have that guy who can take over a game.
