You can see how we don't play that well when he's out. None of Shaver's players were true #1 point guards, but I still think Owens would have been great this year.

Also, Ayesa isn't close to an even trade for Owens or Milon. Maybe as he improves he can be Burchfield 2.0. He's a spot up sharp shooter. I'm going to provide a statistic that will never be broken in the history of Tribe basketball. Ayesa played in 29 games this season and played 436 minutes (15 per game). HE SHOT ZERO FREE THROWS THIS YEAR.....ZERO.

Hamilton would never even play with the old Shaver bunch, and he starts for us. The reality is that we have two dominant big men who would drive success pretty much anywhere with three complementary players on the court.

Hamilton's play style probably wouldn't work well with Shaver, but I think he's a pretty solid player. Not a great shooter or someone who generates a ton of offensive opportunities, but he plays hard on defense and has good awareness on offense.

Audige was gone before the season ended last year as he had already posted during mid-February his highlight video. Agree Brown was a lost but it is an even trade of Owens for Ayesa in overall talent. Jury is out on Wight and Stone. Really the question is the two incoming freshmen and how much they contribute plus we got 2 scholarships to give. Feeling good about next year if we fill the open slots with a quality grad transfer or two!

Congratulations to your new coach and this year's Tribe Team for their season. You folks are just consistently incorrect when you post that Audige had decided to move on during last year's season. From an outsider's position, and one who communicates with a lot of basketball people, I can tell you Audige was staying put until the coaching change.

I think he's been great for us this year too. He brings a defensive and physical mentality to the court. I think he's having a blast doing so especially since his career at Penn was somewhat derailed by injury. Great way to end a career with the Tribe. Hard work pays off.

I wonder if Audige regrets his decision. NW is an awful team. They've lost 17 of their last 19 games, with their only wins vs. a remarkably bad Neb squad. Chase can look forward to getting thumped night after night for the rest of his college career. He could have stayed in Wmbg and been a star.

Northwestern was part of the Forgotten 5 until 2017. Chicago is pretty fun, so maybe thats it.

RE: Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - LeadBolt - 03-03-2020 06:10 PM

Fisher had a better regular season than I imagined he would, won more games than any W&M team in my lifetime, and that should be celebrated. I'm going to DC to watch and hopefully celebrate yet another first in my not so short lifetime next week.

Hopefully the new transfer rules (thread topic) will help the Tribe and not hurt us going forward, although I tend to doubt that.

GO TRIBE!

RE: Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - WMInTheBurg - 03-03-2020 06:45 PM

TBH, I think that if we get some players that transfer to high profile schools like Pierce did, it's a selling point in recruiting. Whether they end up wanting to leave or not, it gives recruits the peace of mind that W&M is at least a path to the biggest stage they want to play on.

RE: Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - Tribe32 - 03-03-2020 06:51 PM

I think if we keep winning 20 games a season and start getting to the post season on a regular basis, we will become the darlng high academic school on any brainiac kid's radar.

Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - mrjoolius - 03-03-2020 06:53 PM

So, we are recruiting kids by selling them on how great transferring out of here works out? No. We sell them on what we are. A great school with competitive basketball, a family atmosphere, with a supportive staff and community behind them. We focus on our fantastic former players who have gone on to be successful professionals on the court and in the real world. Sell them on what we are, not on what we aren't.

Well said Mr J. I have always believed that since I recruited in 1960- 61

RE: Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - WMInTheBurg - 03-03-2020 10:15 PM

If we can get Carmelo for a year that way, I'm in. I'd rather get that talent for 4 years, but if the mid-majors become a farm team for the P5, we'd be missing out by not getting those players IMO. The entire pitch is not that you can come here to go somewhere else. But part of the pitch has to be that you won't lose that opportunity if you do come here.

Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - Tribal - 03-04-2020 04:20 AM

But it won't be guys on Anthony's level, it'll be guys on Audige's or Brown's level. We NEED guys like Thornton and Knight to graduate from W&M, not view us as a stepping stone.

I see some value in both angles but 1 and done, I think, would cripple our recruitment effort and team chemistry.

RE: Possible New Transfer Rules for Next Year - TribeFan1983 - 03-04-2020 05:53 AM

It sounds like the NCAA's "transfer without penalty" approach is coming, like it or not. We need to get out in front of it; use it to our advantage. Let's scour the hoops rosters at Duke, KY, UNC, etc. for kids buried on the end of the bench. Sell them on our academics, family atmosphere, young rising star coach, seven straight 10-conference-win seasons, etc. Imagine bringing in a Van Vliet every year., but without the one-year wait.

I agree with that. I think if the rule changes are happening as stated though, we need to be ready to adapt.

The vote for this ruling has been moved from April to June, per Jon Rothstein.
