I would consider Delaware for the AAC. State flagships have an inherent value. They aren't the strongest candidate, but we can definitely (and probably will) do a lot worse. It'd create nice local rivalries with Temple and Navy. We might have to lock in set cross-division opponents to get UD-Navy every year.

The AAC isn't taking a moveup directly. It would strike a dagger in the heart of their P6 campaign. Plus there's a limit to the power and prestige of a state flagship; Texas and Delaware are both flagships but that's where the similarities end. Plus Temple would raise a red flag and the AAC may not feel like doubling down on the Philly market is worth their while even if Temple's OK with it.

New G6 conference.
North Dakota State
North Dakota
South Dakota
South Dakota State
Montana
Montana State
Idaho
Northern Iowa
Missouri State
Eastern Washington
Lamar
New Mexico State
Lamar and New Mexico State will be football only.

You forgot CSU-Pueblo and Colorado-Mesa.

And what's Northern Iowa without Upper Iowa as a travel partner?

It is a hella combo
Plus I like the “Northern” and “Upper” directions better than East/West

Other directional improvements:

Eastern and Western Illinois become Right and Left Illinois
USC Upstate and Charlotte become Northern South Carolina and Southern North Carolina
Marshall becomes Western West Virginia

I think Middle Tennessee needs to be in the mix. Western Kentucky needs to be renamed Southern Middle Kentucky U, and Murray State becomes Western Kentucky (since it is west of Western Kentucky). Alternative, call it Far Western Kentucky. IN the same vein, Since Moorhead State is east of Eastern Kentucky, it takes that name will Eastern becomes Central Kentucky.

Nope. Can't rename Morehead. But you can rename Eastern Kentucky Lesshead.

P6 a) isn't going to happen anytime soon...if ever and b) isn't going to be positively affected unless we add Boise or BYU. Within 2-3 years, there's no difference between Delaware and Georgia State/Old Dominion/whoever. The conference will quickly elevate a program with resources.

As to Delaware vs Texas, it's not just about appeal. Clearly the media appeal and # of supporters is different. But Delaware is the type of really small state where every voter matters, and they might be a state with senators or a state attorney general willing to flex on the P5 some. I was hoping UConn would deliver on that better, but they didn't want to upset the conferences they were desperate to join.

So it is not likely to be the MAC doing the rounds checking who wants to expand, but rather the MAC being approached by a school wanting to join that they found a compelling proposition (just as the old Big East presented them with what looked like an opportunity when Temple got booted out).

True. Those that came through brought very intriguing and new upsides. I guess it's tough for me to understand that maybe a James Madison, Stony Brook, or even a Delaware could have talked to MAC and the MAC was like "meh."

Not that the MAC should be taking anyone with a pulse. But, what they find "compelling" is set pretty high. Higher than most of us fans might think?

If we're renaming universities, how about Rutgers becomes University of New Jersey or New Jersey University?

Isn’t Rutgers “The State University of New Jersey”? Would they be University of New Jersey or New Jersey St?

That would be Oswego. By the same measure. Brockport is SUNY-Canal.
