Injured, just not ready, or a combination of both? Since he has already blown his redshirt, he might as well play and take his lumps this year to get ready for next.

Carver and Ezikpe getting the majority of mins. Kalu has to learn to not foul. Reece as the primary reserve. The Greek might play a little if he can return from injury. Can put Green as the next biggest man next to Carver or Kalu as well for a few minutes.

Something’s rotten in Denmark.

Maybe even UNCG where Michael Hueitt went.

Team is struggling, Marquis is struggling so everyone is looking for things to change

He'll play a year and a half.

In absolutely NO scenario does he have a year and a half. He will either play 1 semester OR he will find some low level D1 who will scholarship him for 2.5 years so he can play in 2021-2022

You can say that in hindsight, but when we were all expecting that the team would be very good next year, improved versions of Dickens and Godwin were part of that equation. I would be very surprised if next year is anything special knowing what we know now.

So it has to do with his recruiting and evaluation.

He absolutely could play in the spring semester next year AND get an additional year.

I don't understand. He is a junior right now. He will sit out the second semester this season and the first semester of next season. Why would the second semester of next year not be the continuation of his junior year, leaving him half of next season and all of the following season for eligibility?

RE: Godwin transfers - ODUCoach - 12-20-2019 05:08 PM

Fuzzy math going on here, but blue is right. Next Spring (assuming he transfers right now), will be the 2nd half of his junior year. The following year his senior year.

This dude didn't realize that non freshman could redshirt last year. And he loves to say these absolutes about who can not play an additional year and then we see guys like Wilder eligible for 6 years.

RE: Godwin transfers - ODU Hugh - 12-20-2019 05:14 PM

Dickens is a bust, but this is all still very bad.

RE: Godwin transfers - Maryland Monarch - 12-20-2019 05:18 PM

This season seems like BT's last year...deja vu all over again. What's next? JJ passing out during a coach's show? Boy, we are in a very dark place right now.

This team is far better than that team with hope for the future though. That team had very little hope. This team will improve in short order, all hope is not lost.

RE: Godwin transfers - Maryland Monarch - 12-20-2019 05:22 PM

I don't agree with the assessment that we're going to be better without these guys. I get the "addition by subtraction" thinking and I agree neither Godwin or Dickens amounted to much. However, the timing and the method of these departures doesn't bode well for ODU. Either Jones is really, really bad at evaluating talent and bringing in sub-standard players of questionable character, or he is doing something that is driving players out. Neither scenario is going to play well with future recruits.

It may take time but it will certainly be addition by subtraction in the long run. Dickens and Godwin were our two worst performing players and were not improving.

There is nothing to do with the timing of this except to get in the transfer portal now to be eligible for the spring semester next year.

Both of these were highly skilled players (well moreso Dickens), but you gotta have heart and you gotta be a good team player if you want to win.

Jones has not changed anything in the way he coaches. They've had a group of players that fit really well the past 2 years. They struckout on these 2.

RE: Godwin transfers - ODUDJ96 - 12-20-2019 05:32 PM

I wouldn’t be surprised if Godwin transfers to Norfolk State or Hampton.

RE: Godwin transfers - DaBigBlue - 12-20-2019 05:34 PM

This will have no impact on recruiting. It's about choices people make and if choices are for the team are themselves.

Hampton is almost a sure bet for Godwin. Wish him well. Dickerson is a little different, putting his name into the transfer portal before talking to the staff, is a different approach.

Richmond, where he wanted to go in the first place before changing his mind. Just my guess.

Nope. And Dickens and Godwin should not be lumped together. Different circumstances.
