CFN prediction - OptimisticOwl - 07-09-2018 12:31 PM https://collegefootballnews.com/2018/05/rice-owls-college-football-preview-2018 They have this to say: "Guessing The Preseason Regular Season Win Total Will Be Set At ..." Points for an unprecedented use of the word "preseason". Oh, some other good stuff. RE: CFN prediction - greyowl72 - 07-09-2018 01:09 PM Pretty good write-up. Probably pretty accurate, too. RE: CFN prediction - OldOwl - 07-09-2018 08:13 PM Nice discussion. Their prediction sounds about right but could improve depending on the injury bug. CFN prediction - chrisc - 07-09-2018 10:46 PM One thing I respect about this site is that they link to the previous season's prediction right at the top of the page. "2017 Worst Case Scenario: Nothing works... a two-win season" So.... Maybe not WORST case. RE: CFN prediction - WRCisforgotten79 - 07-10-2018 12:52 AM One misleading statement - that Rice has not beaten Houston since 2010 - would leave the casual reader under the [false] impression that the Owls have lost 7 in a row to UH, when, in actuality, they've played just 4 times. I feel much better now! RE: CFN prediction - texowl2 - 07-10-2018 12:15 PM I'm not sure I can say which one of the "fun stats" is worse: -1st Quarter Scoring: Opponents 142 – Rice 17 – Field Goals: Opponents 15-of-18 – Rice 3-of-5 – Turnovers: Rice 29 – Opponents 6 Those pretty much tell it all. That series of turnovers stands out in my memory as the worst. RE: CFN prediction - Rice FB Fan - 07-10-2018 02:57 PM QB turnovers last season from all of them was an embarrassment (and why I think this season's QB is likely Stankavage). Actually more like if disaster flick king, Irwin Allen, had done a football movie. RE: CFN prediction - mebehutchi - 07-10-2018 04:47 PM I’m looking for improvement in category of watchable football and games that aren’t completely over by well before halftime. RE: CFN prediction - texowl2 - 07-10-2018 05:21 PM I suspect that the sequence against Army was at long last the final straw. Not sure that i have ever seen anything worse in my 50+ years of watching Rice and sports in general. If I recall of Tyner’s 5 turnovers three were Hail Mary attempts. Lightning and flash started all but two games and the bulk of their turnovers for the exception I believe La Tech were in the first period. Lightning = Army. As for stankadore hopefully he can compete for the job just hard to hand the job to a guy that has only thrown one pass in a game since high school. Need to see what he can do in person before handing over the keys. RE: CFN prediction - OptimisticOwl - 07-10-2018 06:42 PM I remember reading about a game that were leading 12-0 with two minutes left, and lost it 20-12. Mid 1950s I believe. We started that year 2-0-1 (beat Alabama, tied LSU, beat Clemson), were ranked #15, then lost the last 7 games.
