From the arena, to the crowd, and even the video production, this place definitely punches above its NCCAA weight.

Check out the video at around the 13:30 mark when the lights go down for the PCC player introduction. It’s as impressive as what any D1 school does. They put effort into this. Quite the atmosphere.

Talladega applying to D2

(Talladega, AL.) Talladega College is poised to transition to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II.

Talladega College Vice President and Athletic Director Michael Grant announced that Talladega College President Gregory J. Vincent and the Board of Trustees made the decision to pursue NCAA membership, and the college has submitted its application.

“This is a strategic and transformative move that will strengthen our athletic programs and elevate our brand,” said Grant. “Most importantly, joining NCAA Division II will benefit our student-athletes by expanding opportunities for them to train, compete and reach their full potential in academics and athletics.”

Good find. Talladega Tornadoes might return home to the SIAC after an 80+ year wait.

It's a little strange that they just moved from the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference to the Southern States Athletic Conference just a year ago. Now they are jumping to D2.

You got to wonder if Talladega might finally pull the trigger in adding football as well? They have been talking about that as well.

No, we don't got to wonder. Talladega College will be adding at least three sports; one of which is likely men's volleyball.

They do have a club football. Since that is behind a pay wall? Could that conference they might be joining be Gulf South Conference, and they make their club football team into a varsity team? They were talking about making them into a varsity team in the past. It would help get GSC up there in the numbers in football memberships as well.

Middle Georgia State did not apply this year. They are looking to apply in 2024 or 2025. And no, it is not the Gulf South they seek to join.

Quote:A move to the NCAA

Middle Georgia State University is poised to leave the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for a new home in the NCAA Division II.

The Georgia Board of Regents gave the OK on Feb. 14 for the university to pursue the switch.

“The NAIA has been a good home… but it is primarily designed for small institutions,” Middle Georgia State President Christopher Blake told the board.

Middle Georgia’s enrollment last fall was 7,689 students. It has 10 athletic teams and 180 student athletes.

Blake said joining the NCAA would elevate the school’s sports programs. The school also plans to add women’s track “to make sure that we have strong compliance with Title IX requirements.”

Joining the NCAA’s Peach Belt Conference would reduce travel time to games, he said. Other Georgia schools in that conference include University of North Georgia, Augusta University and Clayton State University.

The next step is for Middle Georgia to apply for admission to the conference.

Blake said there will be several opportunities for the university to reconsider the move to the NCAA if the plan isn’t proceeding as desired, but the idea is to begin competing in the NCAA in fall 2025 under a provisional basis.

That's the article that started the Utica talk; there have been about 6 more since. The key for Utica and Nichols College is to find a D1 home for their men's and women's ice hockey teams first. Utica did not apply and very doubtful that Nichols did.

Proof you don’t have to have a big arena for big atmosphere.
